2500k finally giving out on me. Opinions on what to move to

The temps my 2500k are running at have slowly been creeping up and it has finally started to show its age. I am completely out of the loop with what is available now and what goes with what so I thought I would ask for help.

I currently have a 2500k, 8GB DDR3 RAM and a GTX970 and will be keeping everything apart from the CPU, mobo and RAM. I have been really pleased with the years I've got out of my 2500k (had it since 2011) and ideally I'd like to futureproof myself for as long as my 2500k lasted.

When I got my 2500k Intel was pretty much the only sensible option but now I hear AMD is the best value for money. I have been looking at the Ryzen 5 3600 but am open to other options if there are better ones. For a motherboard I have heard the MSI B450 Tomahawk is good. I have no idea about RAM really but have been hearing RAM speed is more important now and I've heard that the Corsair Vengeance LPX kits are good. I have been looking at the 3200mhz sticks but I don't really know if that's what I should be looking for.

My price range is between £300 to £400 but ideally the lower the better.

Thanks in advance!

The MSI B450 Tomahawk wont work with a 3600 unless you update the BIOS first
Dont know if that board has USB BIOS update but if it does not you will need an older AM4 CPU to update the BIOS before you can drop in the 3600

It says this on the product page: "Flash BIOS Button: Simply use a USB key to flash any BIOS within seconds, without installing a CPU, memory or graphics card”

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B450-TOMAHAWK

Does that mean I can get it to work?

If you're not averse to buying used, you could scout for old gen HEDT Intel chips, like the Broadwell-E and a X99 mobo with RAM and still save a few bucks.

#2 their debt is insane, even for a "diverse field" company. They cannot even afford to service the debt maintenance let alone make an actual dent in the debt itself. - Internet Stranger

It's by far the best option price-wise and future-proofing wise to get a 3600 with a B450 board.

The direct upgrade Intel wise would be a 9600K with an Z390 board or, if you don't need the K's overclocking capability an i5 9400 for example with a H310/H370 board would do as well.

A 3200 CL16 kit for the RAM would be fine in both sets.

-Crashed: (not my fault ) '94 Nissan 100NX GA16DE (a.k.a. NX1600). Renault Laguna Phase I facelift '99 1.6 K4M. (Broke a strut and smacked a tree).
-Sold: '00 Nissan Primera P11-144 QG18DE, '97 Honda Prelude F20A4.
-Current: '03 Suzuki Ignis Sport 1.5 M15A & '03 Peugeot 206CC 2.0 RFN fully riced.

Also going to chime in recommending the Ryzen 5 3600 + a B450 mobo. Paired with your 970 will make for an excellent gaming pc.
