What do people do with their old parts?

I see so many threads here about people upgrading their mobos, cpus, etc. Yes, I imagine you could sell a 4 yo mobo on ebay, but really, who would buy it? Same for graphic cards- who would want GTX780? It would seem better to donate a working pc to charity and just build new from the ground up?

I sell them here mostly

GPUs I used to sell on a more regular bases before things got stagnant.

I just sold my old motherboard and CPU (x79 era) before even getting the for sale thread up. If you have it, someone out there wants it....for the right price.

The only thing I don't sell are HDDs/SSDs

Check your local Public Sanitation, they should have an electronics recycling location for whatever you can't sell.

It's probably going in the same landfill anyway, but it feels better.

use to upgrade family computers, sell off here on OCN, sometimes Ebay, hoard, leave at work for eventual proper recycling.

you may be surprised what ends up getting resold, even once its reached final destination/tech recycling bros. If genuine garbage, they sell it off by the trailer load. (buddy i went to high school with started up an e-waste company, he makes a pretty good living off of other people's old stuff. 90% of it gets resold)

Add me on Steam, same name

I usually hit up my friends and coworkers when I'm about to upgrade and give them first pick before I attempt to sell anything. Sometimes I toss together enough spare parts to build a complete rig for people. I would rather sell stuff super cheap locally than deal with ebay. Although I do sell on r/hardwareswap occasionally.

the GTX 780 you used as an example is actually still a decent card. Falls between a 1050ti and 1060. Would be a good card for a kid trying to get into PC building.

LOL! There are so many good Citizens here on OCN.

Me, I don't care how old or irrelevant the tech is, most the time I know I will never need it again, but instead of selling it, I put it in my Garage, lol. Its actually come in handy a few times, I got a full blown Tech Museum down there. One day, I might start to donate parts. One Thing I have been doing lately is using Last Gen Parts to build new Rigs for Family Members or Friends who are in need of one, but apart from that, I literally just hoard it all. I am terrible...
