Advice to upgrade cpu or gpu first

Hi all,
I am still running a i5-2500k happily overclocked to 4.4 along with an MSI HD7970 graphics card oc'd to 1125/1450.
Current gen games like COD, I get between 35-40 fps at high detail running on 2560x1920 30" monitor.
Would I be better off upgrading the gpu to a 2060 super and leave the cpu alone for now? Not sure I want to mess with new mb, mem, cpu at the same time.
Thx!

hard to say. If you did upgrade what would your budget be max?

Well, the 2060 super is about $400 already and I was hoping to keep below $500, but that might not be possible. Adding a new mb, cpu, mem would more than double that probably. Then I would have to debate ryzen vs i7 or i9......almost paralyzing!!
That's why I was looking for thoughts about gpu upgrade alone with the 2500k still be ok, or if the 2500k is just too much of a bottleneck, might have to suck it up....!
Thx

2560x1920?

if you upgrade CPU first you're going to be bottlenecked by the GPU, if you upgrade GPU first you're going to be bottlenecked by the CPU. it doesn't matter which is first so long as you actually upgrade both.

I'd say do CPU first. 4C/4T simply no longer cuts it. You can't go wrong with an R5 3600, or even a 1600/2600, and that shouldn't even be that expensive. Get a $100ish good quality B450 motherboard and 16GB of RAM. That should set you back $300ish dollars, which leaves with you $200 for a graphics card. I'd recommend saving an additional $100 or so and get the RX 5600XT or the 5700, because the $200 cards despite being an upgrade to yours, aren't really that big of an upgrade.

Biggest difference would be the gpu change. Go with that if that's all than can be budgeted. 2500k, OC that baby as much as you can. If you can find a 2600 - 2700k on the cheap, that would help. I seen a 2700k here on Kijiji for $50 cad recently.

And another stupid thing, the monitor only has a dvi-dual link input, no hdmi, etc so I need a card with that. I am sure some of the evga 2060's do have the dvi out...

There exist DVI to HDMI or displayport adaptors in case DVI is a must
A quick look on Amazon shows you can buy them for less than $10
