What cpu to get?

I am planning on changing my i7-7700k in for something with more cores. But i can’t decide to go with which cpu. Either a Ryzen 9 3900x or an i9-9900k. Everything in my body yells 3900x, but it (from what i read and watched on youtube) mostly outperforms the 9900k in everything i don’t do with it. Like video editing and that type of stuff. I mostly just play games. What would be wise to do? 3900x, 9900k or just keep the 7700k? Costs doesn’t matter that much i think. I only need a new cpu and mobo. Prices are pretty much leveled. 9900k is $100 more expensive over the 3900x, but the Aorus Z390 Master is about $100 cheaper than the Aorus x570 Master. What would you choose or why not to change?

My build now:
i7-7700k (Kraken x62 cooler)
ASUS ROG Maximus IX Formula (Z270)
G.Skill Trident-Z Neo 3600Mhz
Aorus RTX 2070 Xtreme
Samsung 970 evo 500Gb m.2
3Tb hdd drives.
Seasonic 750W Prime Gold
Cooler Master c700p Black edition (all fans are Corsair ML140 Pro’s, also on the Kraken x62)
Msi Optix AG32CQ (2560x1440)

The 3900 has 12 cores. The equivalent cpu for the 9900K on the number of cores is the 3700K, which is 8 cores at like 300$. Get the cheaper one, sell your gpu, then use the money to get a gpu upgrade, which would benefit you better in gaming.

Unless, of course, getting a 9900K and upgrading to a 2080 Super is within your budget.

hmm... what if i only upgrade the gpu? Would that work or would it be a bottleneck?

Bottleneck the 7700K? In multi-threaded games - yes. It will run out of cores. But, say you upgrade to a 2080 Ti, then you'll get much higher fps but in some games it might not feel as smooth.

Hear me out, Yes getting an 9900k will be better for "Pure" gaming but unless you have two machines that are next to each other you wont even notice the difference compared to something like a 3800x. + today a lot of rumors are confirming that the new zen 4000 series will be compatible with AM4 socket so you can get something like the MSI unify + 3700x + a really good ram kit and upgrade in September to a 4900x?

You've been looking at too many Intel CPUs, its 3700X

But I agree, get the 3700X, you already have good 3600MHz Memory.

And I'd say hold on to your 2070S till next gen. Its a very capable card for 1440p. The 2080S is just not a worthy upgrade.

My bad. Op can even opt for a cheaper R5 3600 and jump to a next gen 8-core at end of year. I think it is a 2070 not super.

So, about 300$ for a cpu/mobo combo.

I am planning to get an upgrade that wil last a few years. I have my 7700k for about 3 years now. I’ll see and do some research about the next gen and maybe wait til they come out and upgrade by that time. But won’t the Aorus X570 Master work with the next Gen AMD cpu’s? I think my ram is good enough for now. Thank you 🙂

I’ll look into the 3700x. Or i just wait til the end of the year and get that cpu instead. I am in no hurry tbh.

My RTX 2070 Xtreme is before the Supers came out. So i think it is just an overclocked RTX 2070. https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Ca...AORUS-X-8GC#kf
