I've asked before to have the TOS updated as well. Product bashing does not have a place on OCN.

We agree, and senseless bashing of anything / anyone would be covered in the ToS where we mandate that "You positively contribute to the forum and its membership" and
"You aid in maintaining a friendly and professional atmosphere".

Keeping the terms of service general in this way has allowed us to make minimal changes to the text over the last decade and ensure that our enforcement of these policies can always remain relevant to the current needs of the community and issues we face at the time. Overly specific policies can leave us in a position where problematic members try to tiptoe around the edges of a policy.

As always, if you see something that is an issue or shouldn't be in the community - even if you're not sure if it is an explicit rule violation - report the content. Our moderation team is great at figuring out if something is a violation and what kind of violation it should be. thumb.gif

So you're asking to create a hardware shilling site instead of hardware discussion site.

There's a difference between 'bashing' and discussing shortcomings. I suppose that technically you can do either tactfully, but coming out and just trashing a product without backing up your argument isn't really 'professional' (this isn't to claim that anyone reading this actually does this, it's just kind of a general statement).

So if you get into a discussion with someone about a product and are able to discuss its shortcomings constructively and professionally? Then you can absolutely talk about a product's imperfections. If you're just going to say something along the lines of 'ha, the (product) is total rubbish. spend your money elsewhere', then you're doing exactly what you shouldn't be doing.

DO NOT PURCHASE ITEMS IN THE MARKETPLACE VIA PAYPAL GIFT, AND DO NOT REQUEST OTHER USERS PAY FOR ITEMS VIA PAYPAL GIFT. IT IS AGAINST PAYPAL AND OCN.NET'S RULES, AND YOU WILL GET BURNED.

You don't have to like the rules, but you agree to follow them by joining Overclock.net.

The rules are already FAR too ambiguous and open to interpretation on this site where everything comes down to selective enforcement due to having the word "trolling" being against the rules. "Trolling" isn't even a real word and has no meaning, so a moderator can just make up anything they want and say, "screw you pal, your post is trolling", for virtually anything you say.

"Product bashing" being against the rules would be the same thing. It's just a completely ambiguous word with no meaning that would all come down to selective enforcement and playing favorites.

It's the principal of it, not the need for an exact definition.

So am I a bad person or is my female Shepard just easy?
