I just got my PSU in and was going to test my case fans while i wait for my ram to get here to start building. Can i turn on the PSU with out it being plugged into the motherboard and just plugged into the wall?

Simply take a paper clip and insert it into the green and a black pin on the 24pin motherboard plug. Then when you plug in the psu/turn on the psu's switch, it will automatically power on, without a motherboard.

Just make sure you don't turn on the PSU like this with nothing attached. Powering up a psu without a load may damage it.
