Would the dark area be next to the Processor, the processor itself, or on the processor socket (or all of them of course). I'm not sure I can check. I didn't notice any burn marks on the GPU and RAM which were also plugged in.

Near the ATX connector, VRMs, capacitors and look for any burned wires

I'll check up on those and the socket once I get back home from college, I hate to have to remove the cpu cooler after I barely got it in, but blegh.

The socket itself should be fine, the VRMs are the little mini towers in the surrounding left area, that is what feeds power to the CPU

What should I be checking for when I look at the VRMs? Any particular area that would be a particular color?

I'll do that ASAP, for now an entire day of anxiety at my classes, I won't get back till around 9 PM EST earliest, so I'll hopefully have my new PSU and be able to upload pictures by then to finally figure it out. Thanks for the help!
