My SS G Series 550W bit the dust yesterday, just shut down in crysis 3, does not want to power up (just produces very silent click), didn't blew up or sparked/ smoked.

So today I got myself SS M12 II 850W EVO for a very nice price, brand new from a local IT store.

Damn this 850W EVO is LOUD. mad.gif

My PC in Crysis 3 pulls 440W ftw, that/s ~ 370W from PSU itself, fan ramps up very quickly and hits very high rpm, I would say max, because if it spinned up any mor my PC would take off from the floor biggrin.gif

It's a shame because it's very decent unit ,fully modular, high capacity and with nice voltage regulation, also comes with a very affordable price, too bad they messed up with fan / fan profile combo.

Also this fan noise issue is pretty much common on the net, dunno how Jhonny and kitguru managed to produce silent operation with this screamer.

CHEERS..

It can run Crysis..

I knew that but I thought these newer S12 II / M12 II units are not so loud, and reviews also stated that this unit was not so loud.

Well you get what you pay, just it's a shame for this unit as it's so well rounded and priced very nice for it's capacity/quality.

I thought it would be more silent than my previous G550 but fortunately it's not.

Yeah but I was expecting that Seasonic addressed the fan noise issue in this M12 II refresh, obviously they did not.

Dunno how highly respected reviews like jonnyguru stated that this unit was not so loud, maybe they got a cherry picked units from Seasonic.

I replaced my M12II 750W Evo a few months ago for the same reason. Here is the topic:
https://www.overclock.net/t/1491830/very-loud-seasonic-m12ii-evo-750w-fan-under-load-is-this-normal

I got a CoolerMaster VS 750W instead. Same price, Gold and completely silent.

I'm not sure what the hell Seasonic was thinking putting a leafblower fan in there...and it's not exactly cheap for a Bronze unit. Seeing how many people complained about these being loud while none of the reviewers did makes you think if Seasonic sent them 'special' units.

So did turning PSU upside down really helped with fan noise, I'm open for all suggestions?

It did help a bit...I posted a couple of videos for comparison. However even after turning the fan upside down it was still the loudest thing in my PC. So basically, it went from obnoxiously loud to just loud. I guess it depends on what case you have and how much sound it'll block from inside....worth a try I guess but I'd save myself the headache and replace it with a different PSU.

WOW man thanx a lot, this made a world difference!!! +rep thumb.gif

There's no more air turbulence sound created by double set of grills of my HAF 932 case underneath PSU fan , so there's no more that annoying hair dryer sound!!!!

Here's how I positioned my PSU, now it takes air from the case itself but w/o any obsticles that woud get in way of PSU fan and create turbulence sound.

If I put my palm near PSU fan grill it would produce turbulence and that horrible sound that was driving me crayzy.

Now I can live with this unit as it's by far the loudest component in my PC!!!

I guess now I will sell SeaSonic G Series 750W tha I will receiveas a replacement for my dead G550 unit. tongue.gif

Also now it's much more easy to vacuum clean my PSU with fan facing up . thumb.gif
