Will Silverstone Strider 8pin PCIE cables work with Corsair type 3 pcie pin outs?

As the title suggests, just wondering if I can use the spare silverstone strider 8 pin pcie cables for a friends build, he's lost his original cables for his Corsair HX1000, and needs two 8 pin connectors for a new GPU.

According to what I can find the pinouts are very similar, except the Strider cables have one extra ground (3x 12v and 5x ground), compared to the Corsair cables that have 4x 12v and 4x ground, other than that, the 12v pins are in the same spots as one another.

Will this cause an issue? Will it damage his hardware? Or simply just not provide the power required and not work?

Some advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Forever a WIP.

They should have the same pins on the output side, it's the pin out on the connection between the cable and the PSU that's subject to change. What I'm trying to say is that the part that plugs into the card should always be the same, otherwise nothing would work without the right PSU.
If you don't have the 8 pin from the Corsair PSU to compare it to and you don't have a DMM to test it, I wouldn't risk it unless you just really don't care about the GPU lol If you're feeling ballsy you can try to match it up to a photo but that's more risky than having the cable in hand to trace the wires.

Their layout matches pin for pin on gpu side, and almost on the psu side, other than one ground wire instead of 12v on the silvestone cable, where the corsair cable psu side has 4x 12v wires.

This is how it looks on the silverstone psu side: [g][g][g][g] g=ground ...this is how it looks on the corsair cable: [g][g][g][g]
______________________________________[g][v][v][v] v=12v_____________________________________[v][v][v][v]

I'm assuming it'll either not provide enough voltage to the card, and not power it on, or it'll not care about the lack of one extra 12v and power on, as the 12v wires go to where they have to go on the gpu side of the connector for both silverstone and corsair cables.

I'm hoping I'm correct in this assumption, if anyone can chime in and tell me otherwise, that'd be great.

wait, that pin layout would short it on the GPU side because the strider cable is routed 1:1, i don't recommend doing it.

So because the Silverstone cable has a ground wire in place of a 12v wire that the Corsair one has, it will short? My thought was it'll either just not work due to grounding, or it'll be fine as the other 3 12v wires match up.

You think this could potentially hurt his GPU?

i'm double checking, the 4th pin which should be ground is a sense-pin.
the sense-pin is supposed to be pulled down (grounded) to notify the card that it has an 8-pin power connected.
so either it doesn't see it as an 8-pin and revert to 6-pin power mode, or the sense-pin fries from getting pulled up (+12V).

the corsair cables have the two additional pin on 6+2pin tapped to ground wires, so it doesn't have this issue.
as for why corsair have 4 +12V on the PSU receptacle, its because they power two 8-pin plugs with one cable, splitting two +12V to each 8-pin plug.
or otherwise the 4th +12V pin isn't used.

The PSU is an original HX1000, it doesn't have dual 8 pin cables, so I am assuming the 4th 12v power pin wont even be used, and all the other wires match from psu to gpu end between the two brands.

yeah but the silverstone strider cable is wired 1:1, you'd need to mod it by cutting off the 4th +12V and tap the 4th pin to ground instead.

I think its better to ere on the side of caution and not muck around with this, he can just wait till hes gotten himself some replacement cables, which is looking like its not going to be so easy for an original HX-1000 psu, as local stores only seem to sell type 4 cablemod cables, and looking at the corsair compatibility list, they don't seem to work with the old HX series of PSU's.

*sigh* would of been good if he hadn't of lost his spare power cables...

Just buy replacement cables. Dont risk killing the PSU and/or GPU all for, at most, $30 worth of cables.
