Computer turned off by itself.

A few weeks ago, I was gone for almost an hour, and my computer tower shut off. I turned it on, and my tabs were still up.

Should I be worried?

Last week, my computer shut off while it was on the boot screen.

My computer didn't turn off by itself while I was at church the other day.

And yesterday, I was able to log in before my computer turned off by itself

I turned my computer on today, and it turned off. I turned it on again, and the light went on, then off again.

The next time, it stayed on.

Is my computer dying?

What power supply do you have and how old is it?

"Whatever PSU" is not exactly a helpful answer. Open the side panel and check the brand/model, take a pick of the label(s) if you're not sure what to look for.

Well, I've never opened up my computer, so I don't know what PSU it has.

If you never opened it up it might be so full of dust and other crap that it overheats and shuts off

No offence, but I think its probably better if you bring your computer to a place that does repair and maintenance.

OK, I opened up my computer, and the fan and PSU both seem to be running fine.

The PSU's the thing the cords are attached to, right?

It was really dusty inside, though.

That's something you can't tell with a visual, fans yes, PSU no. Your symptoms could indicate a problem with the PSU, two ways to tell 1 test the PSU with a meter or dedicated tester, 2 swap out the PSU with a known good unit and see if that solves the issue.

They tend to get that way.
