Why you should not buy an EVGA G5

For those that dont know EVGA dont make the PSU´s they sell all of them are made by third party OEM´s in China and the best EVGA units have been made by the company Super Flower which made the old G2/P2/T2 and the B3/G3 series

EVGA has since they broken off their partnership with Super Flower and have since switched to other OEM´s one of them being FSP which has made the new G5 series

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews...pply,6344.html
https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews...pply,6337.html

In short the G5 is not bad but its inferior to the older G2/P2/T2 and the G3 series (which where Super Flower Leadex I and II rebrands) and almost all other units in the same price range in short its a bit mediocre compared to almost all the competition and its therefore not worth buying unless its far cheaper than the competition

Its NOT terrible bad or anything like that just mediocre at worst and there are many options much better so pay the little bit extra and pick something like a Seasonic Focus GX / Prime Ultra or a Fractal Design Ion+ or the Phanteks AMP (which is a Seasonic Focus rebrand) which are far better

And last many reviews also states that its really not the most quiet PSU around so there is that as well

Looking at Newegg (early march 2020!) its $115 for an EVGA G5 750 watt
https://www.newegg.com/evga-supernov...quicklink=true

$130 for a Corsair RMx 750 watt
https://www.newegg.com/corsair-rmx-s...quicklink=true

$130 for a Seasonic Focus GX 750 watt
https://www.newegg.com/seasonic-focu...quicklink=true

$110 for a Phanteks AMP 750 watt
https://www.newegg.com/phanteks-amp-...quicklink=true

And $122 for a Fractal Design Ion+ 760 watt
https://www.newegg.com/fractal-desig...-023-_-Product

Best deal here is the Phanteks AMP and the Fractal Design Ion+ and the G5 is cheaper than the others so EVGA has lowered the price a little bit it seems but again its the worst one on the list so there is a reason why its cheaper

Edit: the old G3 750 watt is $138 which is a ripoff at that price dont know if its newegg or EVGA that has set that price

Why would they stop their very fruitful partnership with one of the best consumer OEMs in the world? What a bunch of idiots EVGA are...

The G3 has its issues as well. You're better off buying one of Super Flower's own units if you're located in Europe. For the NA market, I'd stick with the higher-end Seasonic or Corsair(RMi and up) units.

One could only assume profit margins.

The Fractal Design Ion+ made by HighPower is just as good as those if not actually slightly better and its not very common and often gets overlooked which is shame since its actually very good and not too expensive

As for EVGA and Super Flower the later has had problems keeping up and their factory was working overtime so maybe EVGA pressed them over the edge with something unreasonable and Super Flower got fed up

Sorry. Not used to calling anything HighPower made "good". Well...except maybe for the Astro series but those units are long gone. As for the Ion+ models, they seem to be a bit worse than the Corsair RMx line, which is not a bad place to be in, but it's far from the really high-end.

Really..Unless things have changed I always thought EVGA was one of the better brands as far is customer support, but again, Its been years since I got anything of theirs and I only use their GPUs so maybe things have changed.
I've heard some people would get defective RMA's over and over again as if they never even bother testing before shipping things back too their customers

My experience with their rma department has been pretty good. had a bunch of defective 2080Ti FTW3s and they did cross ship after the window. that was in december 2018 though and around feb or march is when they underwent restructuring

lil OT. I'd steer clear after the GPU defects though. Honestly our options in the US for GPUs are pretty crappy. ASUS, MSI, GIGABYTE, and EVGA are all basically hot trash. MSI is anticonsumer(locking their premium gpus), evga is teetering and hit and miss, gigabyte i hear is just straight trash, asus has as bad an rma department as I have ever heard of. Only thing I been completely pleased with is this GALAX gpu but no warranty

(If y'all) ain’t ready for the old murder, then what you gonna do with the new me?
