Yesterday when I was away from my PC my brother put all my work that I need in a Winrar file and encrypted it and he is blackmailing me saying that if I don't give him £100 he won't tell me what the password is. He also took both my backup USB drives. Now I'm not going to go to the police about it because he is my brother. I have said that I would but he called my bluff, and I am not going to give him £100. I only need these files by Sept so I don't really care how long it will take to remove the password. I also don't know how long the password is or if its got any number in it, the password could be anywhere from 3 characters to 300 characters.

I'm a level 5 vegan. I don't eat anything that casts a shadow.

It's also why I eat my bacon in the dark ????????????????

I'd just go to the police.

Very honourable of you to consider the fact he's your brother, but he's clearly not considering you at all. So, go to the police and tell them what he's done. Broken into your computer, damaged your property and stolen your hard drives.

Remind your brother about the ongoing cybercrime initiatives in the UK and that the police won't look too kindly on him for this.

Also, crack the password yourself using a bruteforce rar cracker. But still, screw your arsehole brother and report him for stealing from you.

No offence but your brother seems like an *******. There are two methods in which you can fix this situation.

1) Just call the police on him because if he is trying to blackmail you he deserves to get arrested brother or not... if my brother attempted to blackmail me I would call the police or get my mum.
2) Beat the crap out of him.

Another good suggestion that I saw on this thread is for you to go into his room and simply sell some things important to him.

That's +2 for calling the police and +1 for beating the hell out of him.

I'll add a +1 for either keying his car, or perhaps shoving dogcrap through his letterbox - the Nick Clegg treatment.

Wow your brother is a jerk. I would disown him. Send him to the police. Extortion is a serious crime.

Hahaha. Wow. He sounds like a druggie haha. Kicking his ass won't get your stuff back. Go to the police and take him with you, just don't tell him where you're going. I bet you he'll give you the password even before you go into the police station. =D And take a camera with you. =D

I don't know what's up with my girlfriend. This morning she said she is leaving me because she thinks I am obsessed with Call Of Duty. Don't worry though, she won't get very far, I put a claymore by the door. wink.gif
