[WashPost] SEC Sues Tesla's Elon Musk, alleging he lied to investors

https://www.washingtonpost.com/techn...lied-investors

Quote:
In a complaint filed in Manhattan federal court, federal regulators said “Musk’s false and misleading public statements and omissions caused significant confusion and disruption in the market for Tesla’s stock and resulting harm to investors."
This is why twitter isn't an appropriate venue for corporate planning.

Well, was to be expected that nothing good would come of his twitter insanity. At least he seems to have gotten his ... together on social media the last few weeks, but the damage is already done.

I love what Musk is doing with Tesla and especially SpaceX, but damn, he has some serious character flaws he needs to deal with.

true, to begin with relying on twitter isn't that much different from relying on rumors.

trolling an adult is very dangerous, don't try it at home nor at work. you don't want to play tag with a rabid man.

While I am a fan of Elon's early work and SpaceX, Tesla is a hot mess.

Severely over-leveraged, terrible quality control, manufacturing nightmares, inappropriately acquired subsidiaries (solar city), Executives abandoning ship left and right, calling wall street analysis boring when they raised serious questions, horrendous social media (Thailand "Pedo Diver" Cave rescue, Tesla Private Buyout threats), etc, etc.

I think Elon is digging an early grave with this Tesla business and is probably gonna get "Cosbyied"

Yeah like a really bad song on the radio that the station keeps repeating and repeating.
In time you find yourself tapping your foot and singing along.
It's like being programed.

wait, i don't think Elon is at fault for all of that, the company isn't ran by him alone you know.

Well over-leveraged maybe, although I'm pretty sure this is par of the course if you want to try build up a competitive automotive company in a relatively short amount of time.

Manufacturing nightmares, I mean, who didn't expect this. Manufacturing cars from scratch isn't easy, mass producing them, even less so.

Quality control, that argument is a bit out of date, there were issues early on with all their cars, but even the Model 3 has been mostly worked out now. Haven't heard of any Model 3 with panel gap issues etc in the last month or so.

The rest, sure.

I agree that Tesla has issues, but just parroting tesla hater arguments isn't going to help your argument.

If you look at it on the positive side, they are steadily ramping up both car and battery production, and selling every model 3 the second it roll out the factory.

On top of that, their competitors aren't exactly doing that great production wise either, and can't match the performance of the equivalent tesla. Pretty much every electric car review end on "Its a good EV, but not as good as a tesla".

So yes, they have issues, but its not as if they're doing nothing right.

Nothing is going to happen. This is just the SEC giving the public the illusion that they'll ban Elon but no one has been charged for the crimes of 2008 GFC and nothing will happen to Elon. This is just a civil proceeding meaning that Tesla/Elon will get a small fine and everything will be swept under the rug. The SEC just wants money so they've got something to add to their books that they 'did something' lol.
