I would really like the option to pay for more upload speed. I would like to host my own game streaming/general media server, but my upload pings out at just over 1MB/s, even though I get as much as 250mb/s down. I would happily upgrade to a 100/100 service if there was any available in my area, but there isn't. Not even for a business.

I don't live in a rural area or anything. The service simply isn't offered.

As I said earlier, my speed isn't anything to write home about, but I can't imagine personally needing anything faster (hell, I don't really need it to be this fast). I also think I have a 1TB cap, though have never been charged for any overages by Comcast. I know my use-case is vastly different from a lot of you guys who genuinely need gigabit connections for whatever, but I think my usage is pretty par for the course in terms of average ISP consumers (honestly, I probably d/l and u/l quite a bit more than the average consumer) and this current performance I am getting is well beyond adequate for me...

Moved from a small town (3500) last year, where I was charged $55/mo for 10/1mb to a slightly larger community (around 10k) that had competition in it's broadband. Spectrum was 50/5 for $38/mo, then doubled it to 100/5 this summer for free. Not going to complain about $38 for 100mb download (unlimited). Gigabit is being offered now, But I don't know the cost.

I think as you said that more competition is finally making the companies finally move a bit. Here in suburban southeast MI, Comcast offered two more tiers of plans (something akin to Blast+) where it's 250/24, or 400/24 up for $10 more each, per plan per month respectively. So I think we're up to paying something like $80/mo., but this is a far better speed than the previous 100/12 I was getting. I could get faster download but don't see the point yet, or pay $30 extra a month for barely any more upload. But as someone who does tons of game recording / streaming, wedding work, and data sharing, upload is very important to me. Going from 12 up to 24 up is huge for me, but Comcast is still data-capping their gigabit plan and all other plans below it which is just stupid. Sure I could get business for like $130 a month, but take a speed hit back to 125/12 or something but lose the data cap. I've hit it a couple times easily. So it's just odd in that you can't win. *shakes head*

Meanwhile my friend in Pittsburgh is stuck on 100/12 and doesn't even get the intermediate options for some reason.

And then you still have the rest of the world offering amazing connections at pennies. Ah oh well.

I'd be curious to know how many of the people that got the speed boost also got a data cap, lol

Back when I was in Washington Comcast happily doubled my speeds but then started enforcing the data cap.

With Cox now and have the same cap. I haven't hit it but largely because I'm trying not to. Ideally I'd love to have a backup server back at my parents place in Washington or friends place somewhere else in the country but the data caps kind of put a damper on the initial backup and while snail mail is great the setup on their end would take some work.

You don't realize you need faster speeds until you get it. I upgraded from 30Mbps Comcast to 1gig Fios. I don't know how I did without it now. It really helps when I would load up BF1 wanting to play and then find out I had to download a 10gig update...a minute and a half later its done.

I have a friend with 1000/50 with a 1tb cap and he ran out of data like the same day he got it. I guess being able to download your entire steam library in a day or two is nice. But i would have been happy with 100/100 if it had been an option.

I guess with 10gig you need raided ssd's or NVME. To get those speeds.

You can always increase the number of simultaneous connections to a single server. It works most of the time for me. Especially if the server is really slow like nvidias.

AT&T is lying to you... again... as usual.

ATT UVerse has its limits because it uses ADSL (copper wire); however, ATT does offer GigaBit service outside its U-Verse branding. What you seem to have run across, is one of those grand-fathered, territorial non-compete agreements that all the cable vendors were demanding from the cities and towns they wanted to service back in the 1970's, 80's and 90's.

You can force your local government to break that lease if your bribe is larger than what ATT is currently paying them and you can show your local government there are better, faster, and more reliable services available for them to use.

Here is the proof that ATT offers Gigabit service in Fort Worth, TX. You, however, may live in a suburb of Fort Worth which means your territory is operating under a different, grandfathered lease!

https://www.att.com/local/internet/texas/fort-worth

FYI, I live in Houston, TX, 77058 ZipCode, which is a heck of a lot larger than Fort Worth, and I am currently capped at 50/5 too unless I want to spend way over $100 per month just for Internet and telephone fees. That's because I am an existing ATT customer and only NEW customers get the $50/month offer!

I am still trying to find out who, or which local governmental agency, owns the ATT lease for my townhouse complex which has well over 200 units in it. Comcast (aka ComCrap) has the leases for all the rental apartments across the street but Comcast will not install their Gigabit network in my townhouse because of the non-compete territorial clause ATT holds over the territory where my townhouse is located.

Now, how is that for feudalistic, monopolistic, corporate greed? I hope you get better results than I have gotten to date. Just remember that this is Texas politics doing its worst to fill its representatives' pockets at the expense of yours!

I have it and yeah it's ok. like 50/5...It's not like the cable I had but I can deal with 5-6mbps downloads more than I can 2 or 3 lol
