[TH] Nvidia Lowers Q4 Revenue Guidance, Stock Drops

Quote:
Nvidia lowered its Q4 revenue guidance just before the stock market opened on Monday (January 28), CNBC reports. The statement mentions "weaker than forecasted sales of its Gaming and Datacenter platforms," and the company suggests that "deteriorating economic conditioning in China" played a role. As of this writing, shares had dropped almost 15 percent after the market opened.
Quote:
The company suggested that management of the excess inventory due to the cryptocurrency boom went as expected, but that sales of "certain high-end GPUs using Nvidia's new Turing architecture" didn't meet expectations because some customers are "waiting for lower price points and further demonstrations of RTX technology in actual games."
Source.

Bold for emphasis.

So, people's wallets do actually have a limit? And people want to see if the technology is actually worth it with more than two games? Interesting. Who knew?

Trying to get customers to pay for your "excess inventory" woes was bound to find a limit.

At these prices, these cards are simply not worth it. My 1080ti is going to be my card for a long time it seems; unless prices fall dramatically or AMD (or Intel for that matter) puts a card out that can compete. Doesn't have to be a world beater, but a competent, high end card that's not a "sidegrade".

Not really surprising since they were dealing with oversupplying problem due to mining crash and now the mining bubble has popped, we are now seeing the true picture of actual demand and sales. Always thought Nvidia stock was way overvalued since mining sales inflated their expected future growth.

Didn't NV forced the AIB partner to buy all the excessive GPU stock if they want to get the new RTX cards? so they made their balance sheet look better even after mining bubble burst? so now they have very low sales since those are more realistic numbers.

I was about to post this in the morning since it made so much sense.

I had NVIDIA cards for 4 years in a row, then they came up with this prices (GTX 280Ti) and i had enough.

Im playing with RADEON gear now and are pretty happy.

I know, ATI is not close to performance but i dont wanna fill the pockets of people that are downright destroying my wallet.

Thanks NVIDIA but no thanks

I guess this is good news for gamers? Nvidia had to see where the line was in regards to pricing and they found it! Maybe we get the next gen Ti below $1000. We'll see. Vega 7 also dropping late next week. It'll be an interesting battle for the high-end.

I don't believe it until Q4 numbers actually come in. It appears as though plenty are buying NV cards still.

I'm kind of surprised to be honest as even I was about to buy a 2080Ti just due to being on an ancient card still because the price/performance has sucked so bad the past couple years.

At least they are being honest about at least understanding what the customers want, and not put the blame again on something else.

Hopefully this is a wake up call for them to figure out that they need to go back a few steps with the price tags.

This is what happens when you "Titan Z" multiple price points.

Farewel happy Fields; Where Joy for ever dwells; Hail horrours, hail; Infernal world, and thou profoundest Hell; Receive thy new Possessor; One who brings; A mind not to be chang'd by Place or Time; The mind is its own place, and in it self; Can make a Heav'n of Hell, a Hell of Heav'n.

You may not believe it, but Jensen said it himself in a letter to shareholders:
