[TE]People can now be identified at a distance by their heartbeat

Interesting stuff, maybe companies already gather this type of data through mobile devices,Fitbit etc. Done also with radio waves, lasers I could see a need if used medically, but its always used for identification first.

Quote:
This system, dubbed Jetson, is able to measure, from up to 200 metres away, the minute vibrations induced in clothing by someone’s heartbeat. Since hearts differ in both shape and contraction pattern, the details of heartbeats differ, too. The effect of this on the fabric of garments produces what Ideal Innovations, a firm involved in the Jetson project, calls a “heartprint”—a pattern reckoned sufficiently distinctive to confirm someone’s identity.

most tech we hear about coming to market is only doing so after extensive military use.

like those LCD contacts? My FBI uncle was telling us stories about working with handlers using those a decade ago.

Given that they are still trying to tackle the focusing issue with those lenses their being in use a decade ago probably makes LSD a prerequisite.

the world may never know. their stories wave between real, insane, probably, improbable, and "waiting for proof" (NIS and FBI uncles) and unfortunately, the one with the better stories is in federal pound me in the arse prison now.

Seems kind of stupid to spend a bunch of money trying to identify me by my heart beat when they can just look at me.

I assume the benefit would be identifying that which you can't see, only hear. You know, help make those surgical strikes even more surgical. "We have 30 not target hearts in building"
