Knowing which reciever would help. You don't need a sub (unless you want more bass), decent front L and R can be enough. You can also mix and match fronts and rears. Put your two best/biggest/lowest range speakers front L and R, rear and center doesn't need low range.

The .1 is for a subwoofer. You don't need a subwoofer to make it work, but unless you strictly listen to music, without a subwoofer movies won't sound as great.

Looked at a pic of the back of the receiver and you can do direct lines to the 5 speakers.

Like you, my 3 front speakers are PSB and the 2 back speakers and subwoofer are Polk Audio.

The .1 is just for marketing, the same as the .2 and .3 systems that have become available. The problem is the source material doesn't have a clue what speakers and sub you have so can't set the crossover frequency correctly for them. Much better that you set it yourself and do it correctly.

If you have full range fronts (real full range that can get down to 30Hz) you don't need a sub and won't lose anything.

Currently I'm using bose acoustimass 10 series iv speakers
But the thing is all my wires went to subwoofer through some kind of connector that came with the system
If I want to switch the back rear bose speaker cubes with sony speaker and I disconnect the wires that goes to bose speaker and put it in sony will it work?

I'm not greatly versed when it comes to what you said but I think that may be in the realm of not cheap these days?

I do agree with you though. I remember my honeycomb Technics speakers (2 front speakers back in the 80's) being able to take down the house and there was no subwoofers to be found. The speakers had circutry overload protection so there was no fear of cranking them up either. The speakers I have now are just good enough and the subwoofer takes the stress off the heavy lifting. The PSB speakers I have were notorious for blowing up. I had one do the same but thank goodness it was still under warranty.

In some instances you can set up the speakers through your subwoofer or straight from receiver to speakers. Yes, in your case, your receiver allows you to go straight into your speakers.
