Audio Technica ATH-AD700 headphones will blow any 5.1 or 7.1 headphones out of the water in any game, and also are incredible for music... If purchased solely for gaming, I am 100% you will be more than happy with your purchase! They are expensive, but there is a dang good reason, they work, and work well!

Check out the link in my sig for a review on them.

If it sounds better to the OP, then what else matters? xD

Sorry... I don't have any suggestions.... but I just thought I'd throw that out there.

Causing unnecessary drama since 2008. Don't think you're special. I'm snippy to everyone.

I will also vouch for stereo headphones, AD700's are PHENOMENAL for gaming.

However if you're completely sold on surround headsets, then I have nothing to recommend.

Basically, let me make it simple for everyone. I currently own these: Link Here. Also: Review Link. Very simple and despite what anyone says I love how they sound. All that little module is, is basically a small amp with 3 analog mini-jack input (Front, Rear, Cent/Sub) and loop-back outputs. I am basically just looking for a optical/digital input equivalent of these headphones.

I understand many of you would suggest against this but like I said, it's a personal preference and I will not be purchasing any stereo headphone so if you aren't willing to help please don't complain or question my decision. I am not here to argue with anyone, just looking for some suggestions between the different options out there. I know how strong some people feel about the stereo/surround headphones debate so I would like to kindly ask that we do not return to it.

If you like the way that sounds, you will like some stero headphones with dolby headphone or the surround effect or whatever even better. Its way more surround sounding.

computeruler, I appreciate your recommendation but I'd like to make one last firm statement that I am not looking for stereo headphones of any kind no matter how much better they are. You are free to participate in the discussion but please refrain from the anti-surround/pro-stereo commentary. This goes for everyone else as well.

I appreciate your cooperation, now can I please have some more proper recommendations.

So far according to a few members I have these as options:

Plantronics Gamecon
Tritton AX720
Trutton AXPRO
Logitech G35

A few of these have USB only input so I will be filtering these out.

The AXPRO's were not worth the price difference. And 99% of the rest don't fit under my requirements unfortunately, although they are good options.

And thank you for respecting my opinion. +rep for you as well.
$130, ouch.

I normally listen to the advice given on OCN but i would still like to try a nice pair of surround sound headsets to determine if they were indeed a gimmick or if i preferred them to stereo.

woa

you spent $130 on 5.1 headphones

Now I feel bad for you

You could have got some shure - 840s for only $20 more and those would be over 9000x better with some dsp effects.

I don't mean to Ad hominem but I just find the name of Open Your Eyes' quite ironic.
OP, have you compared 5.1 headphones with stereo headphones for gaming?

Anyway, 'no Budget' =

Any STAX electrostatics
beyerdynamic DT880 32 ohm + any cheap Creative/Auzentech X-fi optical out to a DAC.

Beyerdynamic Headzone
If it's console, the Astro mixamp + beyerdynamic DT880 32 ohm / beyerdynamic MMX300 if you want a boom mic.
