Hey guys, recently just put together that rig in my sig. Needless to say, its a beast.

But I wanted to make sure I have my ssd right and I am getting the full potential out of it. Advertised read/write on the disk is 500+mbs and it is a sata 3 ssd. I have it plugged up to a sata 3 port and have the controller set to ahci as well.

When using 7 zip to extract large files the max read time was averaging at like 120mbs. Not sure if this is the best way to test it, as I'm assuming the bottleneck in this operation is my ssd. I looked up some simple tips on youtube that had me disable little things here and there in windows that got me up to a starting 220mbs or so but it slowly throttled all the way down to 150mbs or so.

So how to I utilize the full potential of my ssd?

Damn, I knew there were probably other things required to optimize it from a fresh windows installation.

Well wish I wouldn't have put in all the hours to getting everything setup on this partition already :/

Thanks for the help guys!

No need to reinstall. Just look it over from the "Now It's Time For The System Set Up!" section.

Guess I posted the comment above as you were typing that up tongue.gif
SSD is a Mushkin Enhanced Chronos 240gb sata III

ssdtest.jpg

I initially installed windows the the sata controllers set to raid. I was under the assumption that this was the biggest and best. So everything ran fine but I couldn't get it to show my old hdd with all the old windows files on it, that I wanted to use as a slave.

Posted around on here and figured out I needed to set it to ahci. After changing this (without a new install), slave showed up fine with all the files.

As stated, I have done a little bit of research via youtube videos and followed some users instructions of how to change settings here in there in windows to help speeds. Other than that though, nothing has been done.

Also I don't mind doing a clean install if you think it will make a more efficient difference. Usually always seems to be the best option in most cases. Might have put some time into this system,, but its still build weekend so I can't say I didn't expect for something like this to happen :/

Looks about right as that drive has asynchronous NAND which is less than half the speed of synchronous NAND when it comes to handling compressed data.

If you want faster speeds you should have gotten this drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226226

or something more expensive.

If you want to see the speeds that are advertized benchmark with ATTO: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Benchmarks/ATTO-Disk-Benchmark.shtml

That sucks. SSD is one of the newer technologies that I haven't really messed around with. Should have researched it a little more before I just purchased one straight off of newegg reviews and details.

I saw read/write speeds of 500mbs+ on the details so figured thats what I would get with a sata III port :/

I believe 7200rpm hdds get around 120mbs read/write. So I really expected even the lower end SSDs to be exponentially faster, not just like 40mbs faster...
