If you want the quick results of "advertised" speeds, run CrystalDiskMark.
Hi,I've only had so far one m.2 connected at a time not both
x99 only has one m.2 port under the pci-e slot 2
I've used the same m.2 port location on x299 rig

It's just bazaar x99 is a little faster read is all
The 1tg is fairly equal but only at around 2500 not close to 3k like I was expecting from the ssd spec's
None except x99 even came close to 3k

But the 512gb ones read faster than the 1tb which is not the way it should be

Looks like I'll be swapping the other two in x299 into my x99 and see what they do and x99's into x299 lol just to be sure

Either way flashed a new bios on x299 finally released one but first test at 4.2 and 3200C14 mem was about the same as before.

QLC drives make more sense than any platter drive. They make sense because the slowest they will ever operate at is at the fastest rate that a full 7200RPM HDD will operate at, and even then it's only degrading to that speed when you're talking about writing over 100GB of files to the disk without any sort of pauses in-between, and then it's only temporary.

They make sense for non-enthusiasts who want a more responsive experience.

That's a QVO, not an EVO. One is far netter off with a WD, Crucial or a number of others at that price point. Just read the reviews from verified owners.

There are a ton of geeky command line ways to do it, but all you really have to do is go to the "Optimize Drives" tool and optimize the drive. As long as it is shown as an SSD, it will TRIM it rather than defragging it.

Yeah there were some commands and this windows tool to manage the drives, been a long time since I checked trim status and how to do it, it was only relevant back with Samsung 840 EVO when OSs used to have issues with SSDs etc. still.
Everything seems reported ok in that Win tool for me.

---

x99, x299 vs M.2 it very much depends on any motherboard what M.2 port even SATA port do you use. Z97 for example has 2.0x2 via chipset and any 3.0x4 ports are taken from the limited 16 CPU lanes that one normally feeds all to GPU. These old HEDT platforms of Intel are no different, there are variations of where each port is connected. Not all ports are made equal, same as not all SATA ports are equal, some are form chipset some are 3rd party controller at times.

If you want full speed you need to use CPU lanes.

Hi,
Well the best 512gb in x99 is bad in and looks like write speed tanked
Once again inconsistent readings
HWinfo showing the best readings so again which to believe is the question :/

Regardless I bought a 970 evo 500gb from samsung see what it does next week and will evaluate what to do with these 8200's :/
