Samsung NVMe Driver slows other SSDs

Just ran a simple experiment, so I'll first disclaim that these results aren't 100% conclusive.

Using Samsung Magician's built in performance test, I tested the performance of my 970 Pro 512GB and my Adata XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB, both M.2 NVMe SSDs running at x4 PCIe Gen 3. I did the testing with the default Win10 driver and then after installing the Samsung NVMe driver.

As I suspected the last installed NVMe driver will be the interface to all NVMe drives in the system (I don't see a way to install different drivers per SSD). Also not too surprised, the Samsung driver increases performance of their SSD but decreases performance for a non-Samsung SSD.

Sorry, the formatting below stinks. See attached image.

Sequential (MB/S) Random (IOPS)
Read Write Read Write
970 Pro Win10 3570 2309 327880 282226
970 Pro Sam 3552 2326 345458 305419

Adata Win10 3259 2491 363281 282226
Adata Sam 3191 1825 368652 287353

Performance gains with the Samsung driver were mostly in the Random IO space, surprisingly even the Adata benefited in IOPS. The Adata drive took a large hit in sequential write performance though.

Seeing as the Samsung SSD is my OS and app drive, I'll probably use the Samsung driver. The Adata performance was overkill for my project source file drive (photo/video editing).

How to install drivers per-device:

Device Manager, for the "storage controller" of the drive, using the Have Disk method.

The highest-performance driver for your ADATA drive is https://downloadcenter.intel.com/dow...Intel-SSDs?v=t ("Client-x64.zip")

Perhaps the Samsung software also isn't the best for performance testing. CrystalDiskMark would already be more useful.
