OK I think I am about ready to pull the trigger.  Anyone see any glaring mismatches or omissions?

I think I just going to rewire a power supply I have on hand, now to find a US source for the connectors and PINs.  Ebay has lots but all from China.

This would simplify things a bit. Very tempting.

The price is sure right on that...

This is a good cooler for higher powered parts...

The copper ones that come with the single X8DTT-F cards work fine with a 92mm fan on top of them for lower power CPU's...

If you get the dual setup, I have unused copper heatsinks you can have. Also, I have some good 92mm fans for them I tested for a few $$...

parts ordered!

memory 6x4G $45

CPUs 2xL5640 $100

Motherboard $49

Power Supply $45

So $239 and I will use some fans and a HDD I have on hand.

Hopefully 24 threads will do some damage in the Pentathlon.

Now to patiently wait for stuff to get here...

Thanks for the help Tex.

Welcome to the 2p club!

Be gentle with it... If you need a couple good fans to put on top of the copper heatsinks, I have some...

Thanks Tex! I have a crap load of fans laying around, 120 and 92 and especially the tiny noisy AMD stock heat sink fans, hopefully I have the adapters or motherboard headers to hook them up.  I am pretty sure I can create all the wind I need for these 60W chips, how pleasant it will sound we will see.

That should crunch nicely! I got myself a pre-built HP Z600 as we just don't have the cheap parts here in the UK. I have dual X5650's that are only slightly faster than those CPU's and I'm well impressed with having 24 threads thumb.gif

My first try I used two 92MM PWM fans with brackets from a Cooler Master TX3 cooler. I had to run them 100% to keep temps below 80c with HT disabled... X5680's run hot! Later, got some better tower coolers and all good now.

I'm sure a couple 92MM fans on top of the copper heatsinks will do the job with lower powered CPU's. I used a Cooler Master fan to test with from a TX3 heatsink and it held the fans on snugly! The two plastic things shown here.

Good luck!

aarrgghh!  Board shipped without the heat sinks, CPUs delayed until Monday, so much for getting this up and running this weekend.  I am not a patient person I guess :madsmiley

I guess since I have the motherboard and power supply I can figure out what if anything I am going to mount this in, probably just screw the whole mess to a piece of plywood...I have certainly been guilty of that before.
