Like others have stated, I see two big reasons why.

- Their gpus were mined on without their permission. Seems anyone with an ATI/AMD video card had these work units sent to them automatically, thereby taking resources away from other projects they were supporting
- Initially there wasn't an option to add a wallet ID onto one's account. This is fixed now, but the biggest part is now that something designed for VOLUNTEER distributed computing is being used for financial gain.... Which is made even worse when paired in with the first part.

In the end, I can see it being of use, as it would provide additional donations to projects people want to support, and in that regards would be beneficial, but a lot of the BOINC community is on edge thanks to the current monetisation and loss of control over what projects and research one is able to support that TBD is trying to bring to the table.

Or, in short, people don't like their graphics cards essentially being hijacked for something they might not be interested in.

Well thats interesting, I had 13 of these error out on me with out my knowledge, none finished.  GCC should only send me tasks for projects I have selected, not new things they add getting default checked.

As for mining with BOINC I guess I would just have to see if its as profitable or more so than using any other mining service.

I just tried mining for the first time a couple days ago.  My 2 AMD cards are "making" approx $9 a day while consuming about $0.70 in electricity. I guess I will see how real that is in a week when its gets transferred to my wallet and I see how all the fees work.  Then again for what my cards are worth I could sell them on eBay and buy a new 1080ti with the proceeds.

Man I need to put my RX580 to use. Might have to put it into my Windows machine with a GTX1070 tho. Are you mining Ethereum?

I set up a wallet at BitGo and started mining at nicehash, it mines different coins depending on what is the most profitable at the time I guess.   Very easy to set up.

Now if only I could get this stupid Antminer U2 working, worked fine with BU but I having no luck.

Looks like there is finally stats export:
http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=team&proj=gcc&team=1174

Looks like the full combined point value.of Goofy + GCC.

Supposedly NCI completely now as well. Yes, it now works w/o app_config file.
