I know some of us are running this and trying to find enough projects to get more stars.  Thought I would see if people wanted to consolidate discussions about this in one place.  If you aren't aware of it, WUProp counts total hours spent running BOINC projects and awards stars based on time spent on many different projects.  It is a non-intrusive project that reports data once every 6 hours.

The site and sign up link are https://wuprop.boinc-af.org/index.php

The website is a great place to look for new projects to run since it lists total time reported on all projects in the past 24 hours. https://wuprop.boinc-af.org/active_projects.py

Looks like I lost another star, I think six track apps used to show up under LHC and LHC 1.0.  I guess its OK since its the same project, like when Monkeys did this and I lost 4...

The admin is becoming a dictator. Removing hours per his discretion.

I lost 234 hours for Quake Catcher today.....which may no long be maintained anyway. Not one of my completed tasks has been validated.

From what I see, only QCN Taiwan is sending out points. Tasks for other QCN projects are completing w/o error but none of them are updating stats.

So far I have only lost hours when projects were combined, but it's so annoying that I'll have to fire up projects outside of my usual ones to get my five star back...

What I honestly can't believe the project admin is doing though is randomly nuking various hours or even banning hosts who are following everyone else's rules... Like GCC/GxG, where the admin of that one doesn't mind at all (and encourages) people to run multiple instances.

What's next, killing hours for people who are running 4+ apps on a gpu because it maxes out a core (and the gpu), and then 6-7 threads of cpu alongside it?

Despite having helped regularly mention WUProp, Seb's actions are about to have me start treating his project like I do Facebook (aka avoid it like the plague), especially since Seb's actions will only serve to significantly reduce the amount of participation (in not just his but other projects too, as people try to follow odd rules being implemented for WUProp) if he continues to use such draconian measures.

I wouldn't be surprised if that is next. Running 2x tasks on a GPU just to keep it utilized counts double hours. Or checking CPU time instead of run time. Admins at MW and [email protected] have helped doing that as it ends up helping their project in the end.

A project like WUProp in general is good for BOINC. It gets participation out to the smaller projects. Even if it's just 100 hours it gets the word out to teams and Projects actually exist. The forums is a major news source for many including myself. His recent administration of the project completely nullifies all that. No one has broken any rules (besides the ones he has made up on the spot) and all have worked within the features of BOINC.

Project admins have BOINC functions to stop clients from getting and returning all bogus work. CSG is working on that now to stop gridcoin users from returning crap results. If they wanted to block users w/o sensors they could have but he has decided to administrate other projects through his own.

I had some hours deleted.

I'm wondering if he'll just negate all nci apps from WUProp in the future. thinking.gif

I was probably close to 200k hours deleted. Radtioactive was at 95k+ now its at 5k. QCN apps went down twice at separate times.

I agree completely with this.  I got pretty obsessive trying to get 20 more projects over a 100 hours to get that next star.  Resulting in running all sorts of stuff I would not ordinarily run.  Losing 5 projects due to combining stats is a bummer, kind of takes some of the interest out of it.
