Perhaps there was other building motivations and a conversation of different cards' potentials caused something to tip. No worries, just keep on crunching
That's unfortunate. He was a good team member. Like you said, something else must have been going on. You guys simply pointed out that the 7990s aren't the DP king anymore. I have 6 Tahitis myself between the 7950s/7970s/280Xs. I have someting like 8 AMD and 5 Nvidia cards, so definitly not a Nvidia fanboy here. Not to mention the ATI 9500 Pro, the ATI X1950 and the GTX 260s,280 and 295 I got hanging around for nostalgia reasons. I had another 7950 but I gave it to my best friend for his (my old) 6870. Any good projects for a 6870 anymore? Probably nothing that my other AMD/Nvidia cards would more than match. Drivers for the 6870 are EOL so that also motivated me to trade it since he was upgrading his HDD. See my latest tread on the Asus P67...that was an ordeal...

I was thinking of selling some of my stuff sitting, since I really haven't been participating as much as used to. I just have the two 2Ps, but I don't think I can part with them. Too much time and energy went into them. Plus I'd like to help us make a strong showing in the Pentathlon. Just been having some money issues lately so I've been low-key, unless my Twitch career suddenly takes off...haha...(not happening).

I have a 6870 sitting around as well. It's just not energy efficient enough for me to run it any more considering how little production it can push out. I think I'd rather run some of the GTX 570s I have laying around before the 6870.

hmmm suggestions for next Month... just taking a look at the formulaboinc standings, quite a few projects we can move up in / grab some points. PoGS, Einstein, GPUgrid (bit of a stretch considering we are pretty AMD heavy), Asteroids, CSG.

Those are all projects I usually run, so at least for me I'm liking those suggestions.

Asteroids is pretty tight since 14th through 17th is 10 - 11 mil credits and we are just shy of 9 mil. 10th is 15 mil points already currently. The nvidia GPU application still is rather inefficient for it. Should be attainable to break through that 14-17th area in a week with at least 16 cores (maybe even just threads) on it. I don't think it's a month-long endeavor.

For the GPU projects mentioned: We'd need to double our points to match 9th and 10th place in Einstein. We're at 146 million but 10th place is 292 million. It's more or less the same story for GPUGrid, we'd need to close to double our points from 127 million to the 10th place 212 million.

In Formula BOINC , 10th place is 1 point.

The alternate option is to simply push higher in projects we are higher than 10th place (for example yafu , primegrid, MindModeling, NFS, or TN Grid).

I'm not sure on the project RNA world but it seems all teams that crunched it are 10th place and up as well.

For Formula BOINC, the big points (25) will be projects that are not Whitelisted by Gridcoin. Especially during the sprints. Now in League 1, we're better off pushing on several projects vs getting 10th in many.

I have an RNA task. If you do get a task you better start now. The wingman who completed it before me took like 261 compute days to complete it. I'm at 103 days now.

That is my sentiment exactly: going for 10th is not going to be a worthwhile choice versus pushing higher from say 8th or 5th.

It's not just what's white-listed on gridcoin but what's not profitable for people mining it. Fewer hosts is supposedly more profitable for those people mining it.

I found a site with more information on this specific aspect: https://www.gridcoinstats.eu/project

It is apparent that TN Grid is at or near the bottom for both number of gridcoin users AND RAC. However, it has a notably low number of WUs available.

POTM thread for March is up. https://www.overclock.net/forum/365-o...ch-2018-a.html

I'll update our final totals for February once we get the next stats update on CPDN.

Great job this month, and thanks to everyone on the team that helped out with this month's projects.
