Projects of the Month for February 2018

February Projects of the Month

climateprediction.net
Start: 74 - Goal: 70 - End: 71 | climateprediction has not been up as a POTM since April of '15. This might not be a great choice, but we can give it a week and see how it pans out. Credits only update once a week, so the suspense between updates should make for an interesting POTM.
RakeSearch
Start: 18 - Goal: 10 - End: 7 | There are a number of optimized apps for this project. I haven't tested them, but the results look very good for the AVX apps. Link to thread on the RakeSearch forum: http://rake.boincfast.ru/rakesearch/...tyle=&start=20
**The original goal of 15th was reached in a few days, so now we are shooting for the top 10.**
[email protected]
Start: 10 - Goal: 9 - End: 10 | Breaking into the single digit rankings is possible, and this is another project where we can reach the 5 Billion point milestone.
**[email protected] GPU tasks require a double precision capable GPU** Top consumer GPUs for the project are the AMD HD 7990, 7970/280x, R9 295x2, 290/390x, and the NVIDIA OG Titan, Titan Black, and Titan V ??? (no results posted yet)

A couple of different projects in the mix for this month.

I'll throw some cores on RakeSearch

Looks like we could grab some points with it in Formula Bonic

Climate Prediction has only had work for Windows OS for some time. FYI for anyone trying it on Linux/OSX.

For AMD Zen CPUs, the Rakesearch custom AVX2 app was slower since Zen does not have native AVX2 support.

I forgot how laggy climate prediction is when all cores are loaded.

I do have loads of them so; they will get finished...eventually

I've got a head start there. My 3770k has been running them. 1 should be completed and waiting on the next stats update and several others will be trickling in over the next few days. Just 5/8 cores running it though.

A CPDN server disk is full and uploads get stuck at 100%. I have 21 files waiting to upload.

I had been watching the CPDN forums to try and get it in as a POTM, and over the last few months it had been somewhat stable.

We'll see if it comes back to life, and if it doesn't we'll roll on to another project.

It's been better than it had been with no point update at all for many weeks. I'm guessing they'll want to fix this as they aren't getting data. Scientists don't care about points but not getting results is another story.

Milkyway at home still requires double precision, right?

If so, maybe that should be noted down since people with the newer GPUs are going to have an awful time , even ones with GTX TITAN X Pascal or VEGA FE.

IIRC the best GPUs for it:
Tesla P100
Firepro W8100
GTX TITAN Black / GTX TITAN (original) / GTX TITAN Z
Quadro K6000
Tesla K20 , K40, K20X, K80
R9 280X , R9 280 (aka HD7970, HD7950)
HD 6970 , HD 6950
R9 390X, R9 390 (aka R9 290X, R9 290) ... at more power usage than the older Terascale GPUs
HD 5870 , HD 5850

► Recommended GPU Projects: [email protected] , [email protected] (FP64) (AMD moreso) ► Other notable GPU projects: [email protected] (Nvidia), GPUGrid (Nvidia) ► Project list
