Hey all - decided to join in to the crunching fun! I have what may be a really silly question - but where does one suspend the networking so BOINC can't upload the results?

Thanks!

[Edit] - Duh! Found it after turning on advanced view.

Welcome aboard.

If you need to setup more clients on one PC to keep CPUs crunching, I made a guide last year.

I had some work sneak out; I guess my uploads were not being blocked as I intended.... anyway, 1 of the few units had been canceled by the server and someone else had completed the work unit yesterday... Do they send out work to more than 1 person and then take the 1st results? I haven't found any other of my units in progress showing that it is in progress by more than 1 host, but it seems odd that one of my units had already been completed by someone else.

I had a couple canceled by server as well. I'm not a fan of it when servers sent out another task before the others are due.

I haven't figured out why this heats my R7 2700X so badly in a VM, I think the PBO (Precision Boost overdrive) craps out when the SVM mode is enabled with 8+ threads on VM.

6 threads = 65°C , ~100W power
8 threads = shut down (Gigabyte SIV claims over 80°C and then Ryzen Master jumps to close to 100°C)

clocks around 4-4.05 GHz under the PBO

on True Spirit 140 Power which held my 3.9GHz R7 1700X under 70°C-ish. I might swap back the old chip in.

Is this using AVX?
(I normally don't run Numberfields)

This is what I found out last year , R7 1800X is faster than i7-5960X in NumberFields project:

I just got my AM4 board today for my 2700x and its running stock settings at 3866 MHz with the AMD cooler. I either misplaced the AM4 bracket or didn't get one with the watercool 360. All threads are running. No change in UPS power draw when switching from Universe to NumberFields so probably no AVX. 185-188W with a GTX 970 idling. Clocks actually went up slightly to 3.9 GHz. Temps dropped from 137 to 128C. Yep C, somethings not reading right in Linux, haha.

mmonnin are you using SVM enabled? I suspect the virtualization is destroying its power efficiency.

The option is on but its running native Linux.

OK I think it works fine with PBO off (set to disabled). Running 8 threads of Universe in the Debian and 8 threads of Numberfields in Fedora.

Temp only hits around 60°C now. It's a huge difference.

00:01 pschoefer: everything OK with the initial stats, so the Pentathlon has started
00:01 HeNiNnG: First Import was successful. You can now upload your WUs! Pentathlon has begun.
