WCG has stopped exporting stats and is requiring a legally binding contract for Free-DC/BOINCStats owners to collect mass data:,40823

Bok from Free-DC is shying away from any kind of contract as its claimed to be a hobby. I don't blame him there.

[email protected] asking if people pull data on their own:

I pointed out there that it can mostly done via other methods besides a 1 file mass dump.

A user isn't even a person so GDPR doesn't even apply especially since there isn't even personal information.

The XML user list that I used for Pentathlon individual stats for Einstein is still available, but it is no longer an XML formatted document.
FOR WCG the request serves up this:
<error_message>Access is denied. To request access, refer to</error_message>
All of the other projects that I tested still worked.

Here is the an example from CSGrid of the "personal" information that anyone can currently pull:
    <country>United States</country>
I had been messing around with BOINC-Userstats to build a stats site for the OCN team, but I am waiting to see the fallout from GDPR. There have been a number of commits, for both boinc-client and boinc-server, to try and deal with the ramifications of GDPR.

The ridiculous way that WCG handled the situation by nuking everything notwithstanding, some of what WCG has done does make some sense as GDPR stands at the moment. Unfotunately, it will take years for cases to get through the courts, and the laws to be fleshed out in practice.

Yep that really identifies you and I can now use it to track your whereabouts along with your 2nd cousin's uncle estranged spouse. /s

On many forums there is a location under the avatar, sometimes more specific than their country. And I just realized mine now says "Linux Lobbyist". Yikes.

WCG went overboard in an extreme way to cover their butts. Too many IBM lawyers.
