For those who didn’t already knew, XTracPads
is a company from Salt Like City, USA which specializes in mousepads, and they do it like pros. The company was founded by a group of hardcore gamers probabily because they wanted to set their own standards when it comes to mouse movement.
The brand offers a lot of mousepad choices for every individual or company out there but I will be reviewing the Ripper XXL
XTracPads Ripper XXL
The pad comes in a simple but readable packaging which is 100% recyclable. On the box they are presented key features of the pad and some specifications. After you open the box you will find the mousepad rolled up but unfortunately it isn’t used in any plastic wrap or something similar to protect the surface better. I hope this will change in the future production batches.
The first thing I noticed when I’ve set the mousepad on my desk was that the pad simply “shines”. I know, it sounds weird, how can a black cloth mousepad shine? Well, it does and that’s because it uses a polished textile surface which is optimized for speed (this doesn’t mean it’s not accurate).
Another thing that I loved when I analyzed it more closely was the fact that the mousepad hasn’t got those rough edges which can tear up in time when the pad starts aging. This happened with a lot of my QcK series mousepads and I just had to use super glue here and there…
Why this issue will not happen with the Ripper
? Because the company thought of it and easily found a fix which is: Laser Cut edges. They actually cut the edges with a laser machine to prevent that annoying antifray. AWESOME.
The rubber base it’s very high quality but nothing fancy here and it doesn’t even need to be. It just has to hold the mousepad still on the desk, and that’s it. It does the job flawlessly.
When it comes to tracking the mousepad EXCELATES. Remember that mousepad “shine” that I talked about? Well, that’s key feature and the finest thing I’ve seen in a mousepad like… ever. This polished textile surface gives you a hybrid feel between a hardpad and a softpad. It combines the low friction and speed of a hardpad with the control, accuracy and comfort of a softpad. My SS Rival is flying now.
When I first thought of writing the review I’ve wanted to compare the Ripper
with the QcK+ but as long as I started to seed ideas in my mind of how I wanted to present this product the idea of a comparasion started to fade away. The Ripper
“rips” the QcK+ apart in every aspect. First of all the smoothness; then, the low friction that this mousepad offers, the build quality, the SIZE which I love (I’ve always wanted a deskpad), those great edges that makes you think the whole pad was molded into a single piece made of three layers. This thing is STUNNING.
After using it for a couple of days I only have one CON against this badboy. The lift-off distance that this mousepad gives to my SS Rival .
With the QcK+ I had like 1-2mm LOD on my Rival, with the Ripper
the LOD is 2-3mm, which is a bad thing for me because I mostly play AWP in CS:GO, and I need my mouse to react exactly how I want. With my Intelli 1.1 the LOD’s OK but I guess that’s because I’m using two pairs of skatez on it.
As a final thought I LOVE the Ripper
. It’s the best mousepad I’ve ever used and I mean it. I’ve had a lot of SteelSeries QcK+ pads, Razer ones, expensive ones and also cheap ones but this makes for all of them. I will not make a big deal because of that lift-off distance, maybe is just the 3310 sensor, or maybe it’s because SS developed the Rival on their mousepads. I will add another pair skates on the Rival like I did with the 1.1 and then everything will be OK.
I do recommend the Ripper XXL
instead of anything that’s out there at the moment (deskpads or above average size mousepads). It’s simply the best experience you will have with a mousepad while gaming.Specifications:
