idk if its 5, but excessive shortcuts most definitely slows windows down. I see it all the time at work with the old birds. They all use the desktop as their main file store.
scooping them all into one folder on the desktop drastically increases performance, compared to 3 monitors full.
here's a really cool thing about this statement - you can prove it unlike 99.99% of these types of claims.
i've been using windows the same way for decades.
windows key to search, and two things on the desktop. a desktop folder and the bin, because i'm too lazy to move the bin.
