USB drop outs after GPU upgrade

Hey all. A strange thing started to occur recently.
I've been running my PC with a hub on one USB port at the back to run a headphone amp/dac and my keyboard to help me be able to run my Oculus Rift and 3 sensors.
I've disconnected 1 sensor and it seems to have stopped being as frequent.

Now before I upgraded my GPU from a 970 to a 1080 it was running perfectly but now I'm getting USB drop outs and the occasional crash in certain games while using VR. By crash I mean the Oculus goes black and so does my main monitor which then becomes totally unresponsive meaning I need to restart my rig.

I've ordered a PCI-e USB expansion card so as to eliminate my USB hub in hopes that that is the issue but I'm not sure if it will be the fix.

Any opinions on this? Sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum. Wasn't too sure where exactly to post this.
