Looking for a WiFi range extender.

I currently have a NetGear Nighthawk X4S R7800 as my router and after family members complained about poor connectivity on the other side of the home I purchased a NETGEAR AC750 WiFi Range Extender which worked flawlessly for the first 6 months. I currently have a 300/20 internet connection and wired and wifi from the router I get what I pay for plus a tiny bit. When I first purchased the NETGEAR AC750 it was getting 170/20 but now after 6 months it tops out at 20/5. Granted, a reset will get it back to 170/20 but within hours it drops back down to 20/5. The natives are grumbling about their wifi again and I need a solid solution that will serve them well (and stop them calling me at work saying "The wifi doesn't work").

What about some sort of wireless mesh network? I was a big fan of the Ubiquiti system, but it's not super user friendly since it's not exactly a consumer solution.
