The release was initially meant to happen early 2018, but was hurried on by one quarter as a result of AMD's release of the CPU family Ryzen. Sources are now telling SweClockers that the changed plans have consequences on availability, and that Coffee Lake looks to be a scarcity for the rest of the year.
Quote:
Discussions with Swedish retailers reveals that availability of Intel Coffee Lake will be low on launch day and that they are only getting "a handful". One of SweClockers' contacts also says that no Nordic distributor has gotten the unlocked Core i7-8700K, Core i5-8600K nor the Core i3-8350K, and that the sales launch will begin with the locked sister models - the Core i7-8700, the Core i5-8400, and the Core i3-8100.

If true this may be bad for Intel as some people will go Ryzen or wait for Ryzen refresh if CFL prices end up inflated.

Nan, people who prefer more cores will get the Ryzen 1700 or refresh regardless, and people who prefer IPC/IPT will wait for Intel regardless.

Just means prices will go up. May as well wait for the Ryzen refresh. DDR4 prices will hopefully have started going down by then.

From what I read they won't come down any time soon. Current prediction is 2H 2018 and that's not certain. Why rush when people buy it at double the price because they need it?

Waiting on either Coffee Lake 6C or Ryzen 7 on laptops.

The Asus Ryzen 7 laptop isnt looking good with its 4GB VRAM RX 580. 8GB would've been appropriate for a laptop you'd expect to keep for sometime.

Biased rPGA and MXM 3.0A/B Elitest.

If the laptop runs 1080p (max) resolution the 4GB vRAM is not a problem at all...

The first games to hit 4GB on 1080p started to be released around 3 years ago, there will be many more by 2020

a lot of vram intensive settings are quite easy to run for GPU so an amount of VRAM which may be appropriate around launch time can be very limiting later in the life of the part

I don't believe in "good enough"~!!

240hz / gsync / low persistence is AWESOME

On stock textures R6: Siege will already max 4GB VRAM @ 1080p, Ultra textures will run 6.5GB VRAM iirc

Also happens to be the most played game of mine @ near 700 hours. Its a problem I've been dealing with since 2015.

Trading one bottleneck (CPU) for another (GPU) is kind of self defeating...

Ill probably just go with an Alienware 17 R1 since it checks all the boxes save for the obvious desire of a 6C intel or Ryzen 7 overclockable laptop.
