The RX 580 is about 6% quicker than a R9 390x and 35% slower than a 1070. I'm expecting it to be as quick as a Fury X which would be 15% faster than the RX 580 but hoping it's 35% faster.

I realize that. The point was they are doing a simple refresh with no changes other than moving to 12nm, so they shouldnt have named it a 6xx generation at all. People will have higher expectations of a new gen, and these wont provide that at all.

It's not sad when you consider the huge Shader/ROP difference, 256bit vs 512 bit bus and power consumption.

Polaris wasn't half bad given it could achieve near parity with the 390 and 390x despite how much smaller it is.

Hopefully AMD did a little optimisation for power efficiency with the refresh and move to 12nm.

I also assume its made by TSMC? From memory wasn't there pretty strong arguments that TSMC's 14nm node was somewhat superior to GF's 16nm equiv?

If they can get the price down, the efficiency there, and the clocks up...heck I'd be happy. The rx 470 was a fantastic card prior to the mining craze. Ofc we'd also have to consider what gtx/rtx cards might come out on the low end as well.

You mean Vega 56?

A refresh is 12nm is not a bad idea. People that get these cards at least will get a non-mining card guaranteed.
