RTG is doing bare minimum on regular people market to stay alive. All AMD cares about and so does Intel and Nvidia is datacenter/mining farms be it data mining processing or coin mining. They've all abandoned gaming graphics long ago. The GPU nowadays is a compute device with different hardware accelerators (at least in case of Nvidia's later GPUs) and sure it can run graphics but so can a CPU. Graphics performance would have been a completely another level if that was their sole focus with GPUs.
Should have done that earlier.
As for Nvidia pricing. You are not gonna be affect if you do not change your budget.
Mine is always at $200-$300. If Nvidia did not bring in extra 50%, they are not getting new purchase from me. GPU is a entertainment device, it is not a necessity. If it involve work, then the person will not complain about price at all.
Assuming those amd friendly benches arent complete garbage, easy upgrade vs 1060. The additional 2g of memory is nice. For the $, the 580 is still the better bargain, but new tech is always more alluring.
