[Videocardz]RX 590 official launch slides

https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-rade...ve-been-leaked

Quote:
Guys over at HD Tecnologia have revealed three slides from Radeon RX 590 press deck. The first slide shows basic specs, which we gathered in a table below.
The RX 590 features 12nm Polaris 30 GPU with 2304 Stream Processors. The card is clocked at 1469/1545 MHz, but custom models will go up to 1600 MHz out of the box. No changes were introduced to the memory subsystem, the card is equipped with 8GB of GDDR5 memory across a 256-bit bus.
The most significant change can be observed in FP32 compute power, which has now reached 7.1 TFLOPS.
I'm not amazed, the TFLOPs increase is from core clocks.

Also the $279 MSRP is laughable. RX 480s were selling for sub $200 before RX 580 launch.

And it's not even MSRP, it's SEP. The last time SEP was used in marketing materials that I remember was with the Vega cards. The price didn't turn out to be sane that time around.

I also wonder what TDP this will have.

knowing Polaris architecture it'd probably be 200W out of the box.
even with the node improvement we're still looking at a significant 200Mhz increase in stock clocks, where as RX580 is already 185W out of the box.

Anyone with an R9 290 has not been incentivised to buy any of AMD's cards for 5 years now and certainly this new card will not do it either.

I will not buy NVIDIA on principle unless they pull another 8000GT out of their hat and by the way they like to gauge that will not happen anytime soon.

It also looks like AMD will not have anything that will substantively challenge the R9 290 for another year or so.

Sigh...

I think it's safe to blame crypto for that one. $280 is pretty steep though. 17% more than the 480's MSRP with just a 22% higher boost clock. The memory clocks haven't increased, so we're probably looking at the same price to performance for a GPU releasing 2.5 years later.

RTG isn't exactly in a great place right now.

RX VEGA 56 is decent. The problem is you need to do a lot of undervolting and finetuning to get it on par with GTX 1070 /1070Ti and it still is slower in many cases while using more power.

Unlike R9 290 series with the compute advantage in FP64, the VEGA series doesn't have that advantage. VEGA was focusing on FP16.

For example there's some workloads that have it doing reasonably well:

I would say consumer would be in the worst place now. Now that Trumph tax is coming, and the flagship NV card already hitting 4 digit, I cannot imagine ppl have to drop 1.5 grand in future on a single card just to get decent performance boost on their PC.

Compared to the 470 it's a 43% boost, I still say Vega 56 is what people should be looking at but depending on how much OC headroom the 590 has it could just maybe be worth looking at, and for new builds it should be a no-brainer as long as prices stay reasonable.

EDIT: I was going to say the 590 should be decent in Vulkan/DX12 but I forgot Asynchronous Compute is a Vega feature.
AMD REALLY should have made this a Vega 40.

RTG is doing bare minimum on regular people market to stay alive. All AMD cares about and so does Intel and Nvidia is datacenter/mining farms be it data mining processing or coin mining. They've all abandoned gaming graphics long ago. The GPU nowadays is a compute device with different hardware accelerators (at least in case of Nvidia's later GPUs) and sure it can run graphics but so can a CPU. Graphics performance would have been a completely another level if that was their sole focus with GPUs.
