Maybe the first card since 2016 that could get my attantion.
Somehow they always test the fastest of the bunch. My 1060 can't keep up with my 5 yr old R9 290. At stock it goes up to over 80c.

I like the efficiency, though.

The only problem of the 1660 is for me, regardless how nice it would fit my wants, it would be still wise to wait for navi, maybe they can deliver this time. But then again... you dont want to buy nearly outdated hardware (turing/navi) when 7nm nvidia cards are just about to be around the corner.

So it looks like I have to wait until 2020

The 1060 was great (in 2016), no doubt about it. It was just too expensive for me
But if I had known that the prices would stay like that due to no competition, I would have bought it anyway. But that was never the case before.

The thing is, I dont really need more performance... I'm not even really playing games, from time to time I just want some cheap but reasonable upgrades

And GPUs got expensive... when I look back...

2008 - Nvidia 8800GT for 140€... this was a serious fast card at this time! Like a RTX2080 is today.
2011 - HD5850 for just 110€ brand new, again this was a ******* fast card at this time (again like a 2080 is today)
2012 - HD7850 for 170€... things getting more expensive now, this card wasnt so fast... but at least it was very efficient

And from that point on things went backwards

So I'm used to cheaper prices.

My GTX1060 doesn't go above 62c very often...Interesting, maybe use a more aggressive fan profile? New thermal paste? Re-seat the cooler?

Exactly what game is your GTX1060 falling behind a R9 290? Something is seriously wrong with your card if that's happening.

Going by this chart...Your GRX 1060 should be dominating even a R9 290x.

None. Just in benchmark. They play same games. I don't stare at fps. Not all 1060 are made same. I have a single fan from evga and it hits 80s at load. "My" 290 is just shining in a bench.

https://www.3dmark.com/compare/fs/17455726/fs/16007632

and that's a mild oc. If i can oc the 1060, im sure it will surpass it.

If it's true this is crazy. GTX 1660 supposedly 1408 CUDA cores, too bad it is GDDR5 with 192-bit bus.

Interesting, everybody was expecting it to come with 1280, but truth be told, with that configuration it would have to rely solely on the IPC gains from Turing to perform better than the GTX 1060 and it would probably perform around the same as an RX 590 (but much more efficiently, of course), so it does make sense for Nvidia to want to dethrone the RX 590 at its newer price point. This does put additional pressure on AMD to release Navi.

Well, Nvidia did 1060 3G which had bit less CUDA cores than 6G, obviously they could try that again. 3G had 3 cluster less than 6G, this card uses 2 cluster less and GDDR5 instead of GDDR6. Basically they did the same stuff as at last release.

3GB should die at midrange price tier, it's 4GB on the GTX 1050 Ti , GTX 1060 relaunched with 5GB, and 3GB on the GTX 1050 revised version.

That's not a problem. gpu will never downclock w/ 2 monitors. It's designed that way, add up your pixel count. That's why.
