[Videocardz] AMD Radeon VII benchmarks leak ahead of launch

Quote:
Despite the fact that AMD Radeon VII is expected to launch on February 7th, first review samples have landed in the hands of tech journalists and people in the industry responsible for providing extensive 3rd party evaluations. Such tests have started to leak onto the web.

AMD Radeon VII 3DMark benchmarks
Starting with 3DMark leaks. Performance wise, the Radeon VII does seem to be winning against NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080. For a quick reference, custom factory-overclocked RTX 2080 graphics card scores 26800 points in Fire Strike Performance preset and 6430 in Ultra preset. The VII appears to be faster in both benchmarks. We are looking at Graphics Scores obviously.

AMD Radeon VII Final Fantasy 15 benchmarks
The VII has appeared on FF15 benchmark website. In the standard quality benchmark, the Radeon VII surpasses RTX 2070, but it fails against RTX 2080. It is worth noting that FF15 is NVIDIA title, featuring some technologies that exclusive to RTX series.

The higher quality setting has put Radeon VII even lower, even under GTX 1070 Ti.

AMD Radeon VII board partner models
There will be no custom models at launch. Our sources tell us to expect such designs no sooner than during Computex (late May).

So far we have few reference-based models with their own branded packaging and sometimes even custom stickers.

POWERCOLOR Radeon VII 16GB Red Devil (AXVII 16GBHBM2-2D2H)
POWERCOLOR Radeon VII 16GB Red Devil OC (AXVII 16GBHBM2-2D2H/OC)
POWERCOLOR Radeon VII 16GB Red Dragon (AXVII 16GBHBM2-2D2HD)
POWERCOLOR Radeon VII 16GB Red Dragon OC (AXVII 16GBHBM2-2D2HD/OC)

Some early benches.

FF15 is broken for benchmarking.

What's up with that "high quality" score? Seems a little low, being lower than a 1070 Ti. That's worse than Vega 64. Something must be wrong.

Physics score is low and Combined score is abyssmally low. Lower than my FuryX. Probably low RAM frequency...

RTX 2080 does poorly in Firestrike. It's even outperformed by the 1080ti.
However, change the benchmark to DX12 Timespy and the story takes a turn, with the 2080 coming out ahead.

RTX 2080 also consistently outpaces the 1080ti in most titles, not by a lot, but it's usually consistently ahead. Titles like Rainbow Six Siege and Wolfenstein 2 it's massively ahead. 1080ti tends to do better in older titles.

I predict the 2080 and Radeon Vii will trade blows in actual games, though I feel pretty confident that the 2080 will win in the overall majority of them.

Could be wrong. We will see.

Definitely ... 26FPS in combined test Firestrike is very very very low. I have now 30 with Threadripper 1900x (8 cores, 16 threads) and FuryX. Tests on similar CPU with Vega was 36 FPS. So clearly is something not right.

How long will that card even stay on market? 6 months before being replaced?

Assuming Navi will replace Polaris...

18-24 months when comparing with product cycles of FuryX and Vega 64. In best case, I would assume 1 year.

Isn't the current rumor that when Navi does appear in 2019, it'll only be in the midrange tier. Assuming this rumor is true, Vega VII will be AMD's performance flagship until high end Navi products show up. So likely more than 6 months if rumors pan out.

Sure if they will take their time with the performance Navi and launch mid range only for now. Considering what a money pit Vega7 might be for them they will probably want to switch as soon as possible.
