It gets better:

https://www.techpowerup.com/252283/r...ozens-of-cards

Quote:
Hot on the heels of our earlier report of there being just 100 Radeon VII graphics cards in stock to sell in the UK, we're hearing from French tech publication Cowcotland of an even worse situation in the Old Continent. Apparently, there are only 20 cards allocated to France and Spain, each. The price Cowcotland reports for the card is 739€ (including VAT), although paucity of cards could allow retailers to price the card just about anything, if there is demand for them. AMD has not given retailers in Europe inventory replenishment dates. Factories in China are down for the Lunar New Year holiday there, and depending on demand, another production run could be underway only by mid-thru-Late February, with fresh stocks reaching Europe only a month after.

That is actually a good news (for me). I would hate for the Vega VII to be a card that is long in stock and represents AMD top of the line 7nm GPU space.
If the card was as good as a 2080 Ti then things would be different and I would be sad/shocked to see it being in limited supply, but since it is a card based on the dreadful (for gaming) Vega architecture I don't mind it disappearing from stores as fast as it appeared.

I want the real deal. I want Navi 7nm. I want cards with good thermals and price/performance and not over-the-top power draw. I genuinely hope Vega VII is as disappointing (in terms of thermals/powerdraw for a 7nm card) only because it is Vega and that Navi will be much better in all those regards and introduce us to a price/performance point that many of us have long awaited for cards that are capable for 1440p and higher.

And even that is maybe not realistic, but AMD has to do something. The good news is that the Vega VII is a very expensive card to make for AMD and the midrange Navi 7nm products are not going to have 16gb of super expensive HBM2 and expensive cooling solutions. I have no idea how expensive they are going to be, but I bet Nvidia is ready for 7nm as soon as they want to and knowing Nvidia + Nvidia architecture they could probably DESTROY the Vega VII with a 400$ if they wanted to. Which they are not going to do because they are a business and want to maximize profits.

But truth being told I am not excited about 2 year old performance (GTX 1080 Ti) in the RTX 2080 or Vega VII for the same price. I don't see why anyone would.

Except that this etailer says it all the time, as in they will have 100 cards only, "come on hurry order them from us now!". Bloody marketing is all it is and you even copy it for free for them into news on sites.

Personally I don't mind AMD playing low volume numbers, it's a card that was pushed from pro space into consumer space by now fired/retired RTG leader in response to Turing. They are better off taking what ever extra volume they had to produce because of their now gone leader and sell it as pro cards with profit instead. Supply with NV's launches isn't any better at first either, even now cards go in and out of stock. Add to all that TSMC contamination of 12-16nm, I think 7nm was fine.

So there are few cards for retail... is this news? AMD has been doing this for past 10 launches, at least as old as GCN is. Either they supply little not wanting to risk ordering too much stock initially from a fab or the supply they expected to be OK gets sold out to coin/data miners/centers.

How much profit do they make on Vega7? Very little if any quite likely, meaning they will want to sell as little as possible anyway.

Polaris... AMD launches before NV in summer, not a single card for sale in central EU for 3 months, 6 months later finally some cards are barely available at insane prices from retailers. Almost similar story with Vega due to low supply even if the demand wasn't crazy.

Same, it's a 2 year old performance and value level beaten nowadays but the same 2 year old card from 2nd hand market.

I would reply to this by time when GamersNexus will release their numbers and when first results from players will be available.

Vega 64 aluminum shrouds were limited editions. I'm sure the reference Vega VII aluminum shroud is a limited edition. Once these are gone we'll start to see the AIB cards with their own coolers.

I hope to be surprised but I am going by the official AMD numbers here. I expect the card to be somewhere around RTX 2080. maybe 5% less or 5% more. I would be very surprised if it came close to the RTX 2080 Ti throughout the board.

I would not trust to figures by AMD simply out of principle. Only exception are data describing raw pixel rate, compute performance and data about thermals, wattage and other "raw" technical data.

So far the card looks to me quite good in terms of efficiency, i am interested about Thermals because my current FuryX - even when about half with that performance - have really excellent thermals.

So I expect these to sellout just like the preorders of the RTX lineup. If there is a shortage during the 2nd shipment...we got a problem. Also, no gaming bench leaks and this card is out tomorrow?! What is going on in the interwebs?!

There have been some pseudoleaks. From 3dMark results was obvious that CPU was either 10 years old or underclocked on purpose.
