[MacRumors] 16-Inch MacBook Pro With All-New Design Expected in 2019, 13-Inch Model May Gain 32GB RAM

Quote:
Tonight, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo released a research note looking at Apple's releases in 2019. MacRumors has obtained a copy of the report and perhaps the most exciting prediction for Mac users is the revelation that Apple is working on a 16"-16.5" MacBook Pro. Unfortunately the report provides few details beyond that it is an "all-new" design, suggesting Apple is revamping their current MacBook Pro design.

Say all you want about thin and light laptops but I sorely miss the 17" macbook pro's. Those things were discontiuned back in 2012 and had much better battery life than the 13 or 15 inch versions. A 16 or 16.5 inch macbook pro can be done within the same enclosure of the current 15" as long as they go full edge to edge on the display, similar to the ipad/iphones.

Pretty sure they were discontinued in 2010

The current 15 is already pushing the envelope of the thermal. So a bigger 16" will make more if you want more battery life and faster machine. If it is only a 15" turned 16" with a big bigger screen, it will not give you the benefits of the 17".
To me the 15" is just perfect size. A 16.5" will start to be too big.

I liked the old 17, always wanted one with the antiglare screen. But used, they were not a very good bargain. With the soldered ram (and hard drive?) nowadays I'm not sure I'd buy a new 16.

If it has a "6k3k" screen then that's going to be a pixel density of around 400~ at 16.5"... which is great if you love a crisp display like on your phone. It was pretty good at 230~ PPI, but 400 is going to be next level.

RIP games... but interesting to see how gaming will look at 400 PPI.

Always thought it was an asinine move to kill the 17".

Petty much? I still don't understand the push for a 16 inch. They should have have a 13/15/17inch line up.

its probably to increase the size of the laptop ever so slightly to increase cooling for 6-8core cpus, since the current design MBP are at the thermal threshold and cant cool the hotter chips!

I had been under the impression that the form factor would be remaining the same size more or less but with the bezels shrinking to accommodate the larger screen
