[TomsHardware] Intel Gen11 Reportedly Takes iGPU Performance To Another Level

Take it like a grain of salt now; competition is always good though.

Quote:
Benchmarks of Intel's Gen11 iGPU (Integrated Graphics Processing Unit) in GFXBench and CompuBench have finally surfaced. The mysterious processor with Iris Plus Graphics 940 reportedly blows past other 15W chips, such as the Intel's own Core i5-8250U and AMD's Ryzen 2700U and Ryzen 5 2400G offerings.

Nice to see some competition. Last week I've noticed that Intel iGPU installed on Core i7 6700HQ laptop failed to appropriately display motion in Eizo monitor test. 144hz monitor was showing shuttery rectangular block movement be cause Intel iGPU hardware. Switching graphics helped during next attempt.
That's one of many issues Intel graphics has.

I wonder hows intel gonna price this, i hope it doesn't mean an 50usd increase on their skus. If they want to fight amd they'll have to set competent prices

And yet according to their picture the fixed function area that gives us QuickSync shows it is still likely the same size as previous gen so no real improvement there

and what about their drivers? Raw horsepower doesn't mean squat when you get a poor experience overall. Regardless, I'm glad to have competition in this segment. I've had my A8 6410 for a while now and it plays light games well enough. The Ryzen 15w tpu's blow this thing away as is.

However, price is a major factor in this segment. I paid a good deal less than $300 for a A8-6410 w/ 6gb ddr3 1600 and a 500gb HDD. I threw in a 256gb ssd and bumped the memory to a single 8gb ddr1866 (no dual channel on this apu, don't worry) all for under $350. Nothing at that price point can touch it.. even today you'd be hard pressed to do better price/performance wise.

I bet Intel will keep the strategy of having the best iGPU in the top of the CPU stack where its needed the least, gaming wise. AMD's strategy to have their iGPU at the bottom is the correct move imo.

Uh... today you can get the Dell Inspiron 7559 for around $400 used. It'll annihilate that laptop without trying. i5 6300HQ and a 960M. Not the best combination for gaming, but leagues ahead of what that A8 can manage.

Competition yeah right, maybe when Intel IGP product will be in same price class as AMD APU or no way.One example, let say Intel GPU is 20% faster in games but Intel CPU with iGPU cost 100% more $, hm blah.

Synthetic GPU benchmark is never direct related to real gaming performance+Intel GPU drivers are "made in dumpster".
