[Anandtech / Videocardz] AMD launches RX 560XT

https://www.anandtech.com/show/14079...adeon-rx-560xt
Quote:
This evening – or rather this morning in China – AMD is rolling out a new mid-to-entry level Radeon RX video card. Dubbed the Radeon RX 560 XT, the new part is a lower-tier Polaris 10-based card that’s designed to fill the gap between the RX 560 and the RX 570 in the Chinese market. This new SKU will only be sold in China – don’t expect to see it come to North America – with AMD’s close partner Sapphire being the sole vendor of the card.

Quote:
As you might recall, AMD released Radeon RX 470D last year. This particular SKU features a cut-down version of Polaris 10 GPU with 1792 Stream Processors enabled, unlike RX 470 which has 2048.
The ‘new’ card from AMD called Radeon RX 560XT features the exact same configuration as RX 470D. This is a China-only SKU, unlikely to be available anywhere else.

errr, even if its a china-only SKU whats the point of releasing this when Navi is so close to launch?

trolling an adult is very dangerous, don't try it at home nor at work. you don't want to play tag with a rabid man.

The Navi chip that will be competing in this performance bracket could probably take another six months, so there is some time for this defective chip stock clearance at the end of the era and limited to one market.

What AMD needs to respond to first is the RTX 2070 and 2060 and get rid of the expensive to make Vega 64 and 56 along the way, so in all likelihood those will come first and are on track. And then there is probably another chip still above RX 560 XT tier that will have to address the 1660 Ti and the 1660, both of which probably perform above the RX 590 (especially if the 1660 non Ti does indeed come with 1408 CUDA cores).

Nvidia's own GTX 1650, which will probably perform at this RX 560 XT level is still a few weeks away, so this is the time for AMD to make their move and sell those chips while they can.

Same here. I've not seen that used for years, not since the 3870 (which iirc didnt officially carry the XT designation). I had a pair of Sapphire 3870 XT's in Crossfire for a while, loved those cards.

Looks like this just continues AMD's "no waste" strategy that they use with their ryzen chips. Slightly defective RX 580 or 570 chip? Sell it as better than a RX 560 but not quite up to the RX 570 / RX 580 2048SP cards. Then sell it to a fairly closed / niche market like and China and you have a sound strategy.

What I don't get is why so many people are hating on something that 99/100 people in North America won't even have a chance to buy anyway?

It is what it is...

It's AMD. Everything they do gets hate. They could release a 50W $200 card that performs like a 2080Ti and someone will find something to complain about.
