its still "new" so theres no problem about your point.
Fair. Still though, at least stuff is new.

I'm still waiting for Threadripper 3 so I can keep my 16 cores or maybe even bump to 32 while getting better power draw and clocks than my 1950X. The 3000-series this summer is just like staring at ice cream through the window knowing you can't have any for a few months.

Also cmon, you can pick up 16GB kits for $85 now, but if you want the Ryzen specific G.skill kit in 4x8 3200cl14 you get to drop $500 still. Am upset, I wanna fill out my board.

It's been going on since Sandy Bridge if all of you consider Turing a refresh of Volta. Ocean Cove will be out in 2021 and the end of Zen.

End of Zen, how naive are you?

Zen 3 is going for 2.5D stacking in case you didnt realised, and Zen 4 will be most likely full 3D stack just like Intel.

Its just a rumor because AMD announced their plans for stacking memory cells on the dies. They will do it, the question is whether that will be a feature of mobile only die configs for the first couple years, or if all die configs will get it. Also whether AMD will just stack a big normal cache on the IO die, or whether they will stick caches above core die and a chunk of RAM above IO die. Some sortof stacking will take place, we just have no idea what or when.

Intel will also be stacking memory cells of some sort. It is the future for both companies.

Why would they kill cooling of their CPU by stacking?

3D stacking is too get x86 into smaller device form factors. If you noticed Intel's Lakefield uses a big.LITTLE design.

Ocean Cove is replacing the Core series and like every architecture change they focus on improving ST performance. While the microarchitectures have focused on power efficiency. Zen is just going to be run down into the ground like the K8 unless they can replace it at the 4 year mark. History repeats itself

They already stack somewhat, CPUs are not just 1 layer. Here is a shot from how a CPU looks like from the side:

Or as seen from the top:

This new announced tech is simply stacking a different type of logic cell onto another logic cell now.
3D stacking NAND didnt make it crazy hot did it? When we get stacked DRAM it wont be too hot either. No reason to think Intel and AMD wont take cooling layout in consideration when designing these new stacked chips.
