Cores aren't the answer to every question, and I don't think it will address any of the current lineups short comings. Adding more cores doesn't do anything to address the things that have people still buying Intel processors.

I can't wait to get a 3000 series Ryzen, but I could wait forever for a 16/32 3000 series Ryzen.
They got to strike and strike hard. They cant wait for Intel to have 10nm read. 16C now in the mainstream is the right thing to do. Its same as back when we hall had 1C CPUs and suddenly we had 4C CPUs.

Along the same lines as the previous post: if AMD's single core performance is still in the ballpark of Intel's (which is leaving people for whom gaming is their heaviest everyday cpu use little reason to upgrade past 2013) then they have to have some selling point compelling enough for a lot of people to buy these.
For the commonly gpu limited gaming scenario, is it a better buy to go from an overclocked 4770k, or Ryzen 1600 to the latest and greatest cpu, or to upgrade your gpu one notch? People are all dazzled by all of these not needed cores they can buy right now and that won't last forever. It is like some craze where people are buying used school buses because of all of the seats, space, and safety.

Maybe they figure one bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Also as soon as Intel decides to go chiplet with their superior packaging tech AMD's multicore will look like multisocket. Intel makes it sound like they can make a motherboard sized package that runs like it is all on an interposer.

The 16c32t Zen2s still probably have improved single core performance in plebian tasks.

My old intel 4core cpu was saturates in games so I got an AMD FX 8 core and got much improved performance for some time. Then it started seeing 80-90% loads in games but along came Ryzen. the 8 core Ryzen has never seen more than 60% loads but individual cores still occasionally get hammered. Now Zen2 is coming with increased efficiency and higher clocks. This is just what I need.

As I see it 6 cores are marginal, 8 cores are main stream, and 16 cores are future proof.

The fact that AMD dropped TR3 is the best indication that 16C/32T Ryzen 2 is coming.

To those who laugh at other for believing 16C/32T is coming for mainstream, I think you should start eating your words. And yes AMD will show how a dual-channel memory is possible for a 16C CPU.

No one is doubting it will be out on mainstream. The room is available for the second die. The question is when will it be out along with what's the premium that Lisa Su keeps hinting at regarding 7nm parts during each conference.

16-core version will probably come later this year or early next year, while 12-core might happen on launch. They probably want to concentrate most of good 8-core chiplets for Epyc.

I think all of the doubt regarding the 16 core was focused on them announcing a 16 core at CES like that annoying youtube guy was saying they would. That was pretty accurate doubt because they still haven't announced a 16 core, and I don't think they will until next year sometime.... but who knows

I think you are over enthusiastic with your predictions I think the 6 core 12 thread should be plenty for a while, no?

But can it run.... Angry Birds???

Am I crazy to think that the Ryzen 7 Zen 2 would only be 10-12 cores with 20-24 threads with only UNLESS they start "creating/jacking up" ala 2018 Intel i-9?
