Intel doubled core count in a year in a panicked response to Zen. 6 cores is the new 4 cores, it's okay but you'll get left behind fast

R7 will be most likely 12c/24t. Don't think 10 cores is something they'll be going for at this point.
R9 will indeed most likely be the only 16 cores.

I believe he's designing an ARM-like x86 cpu.....one big core surrounded by 4 smaller dies....much like AMD's.

I am waiting to see what the APU may be like from Zen 2. 4 cores at higher clock? Support higher RAM speed? 6 cores? More Vega CUs? Navi CUs? I have a low power B350 motherboard. Will it work on it ? My backup box is getting long in the tooth. As for waiting, well my GTX 690 still works and so does my 60 Hz 1440 monitor and I am not spending that kind of money again. Some people buy GT 350 Mustangs or Hellcats but really? What roads have been made for those to be traveled on at redline speeds? For most, Vegas, 1080s, 2080s are a bit of a waste. As for 3 or 4
in the $200-300 range? Yeah that would have been smarter. Could have bought 4 of them for the price of a a GTX 690. AS for me and 4 wheels, my next daily is going to be a Mustang 4 cylinder automatic rag top. 37 MPG sounds good to me. And no I am not going to trade my 4 x 4 to get it. It does snow here. Of course me and the old lady still will battle over the who is running the faster computer or planting our butt in the 'Stang.

Primary: Crossover 27" 2560 x 1440, Crosshair VI, Ryzen 1600, Flair 2400, GTX 690. Secondary: MSI 890FX GD-70 R 2.0, FX-8350, HD 7790, Kingston 8 GB x 2, Western 1Tb hybrid, VisionTek 1000

APUs will most likely be an 8 core chiplet with a Navi chiplet. I don't remember how many CU a Navi chiplet can have at most. 6 CPU core APUs will be the same chiplet with 2 cores disabled.

Lake Field is already finished and is being produced. It's expected to ship this year. Again Intel is transforming the mobile market.

8-cores is the old 4-cores. Anything less, and you'd have PC equal to these in poverty. I wonder if companies would be manufacturing cheap 8-core with base frequency 1.8 GHz, aka user would be happy to have 8-core.

Old HT on 2-core CPUs was supposed to be poor man 4-core, but it failed few years ago already.

In the undemanding games I play my octacore has seen up to 60 % loads. If it was a quadcore it would be seeing 120% loads and if it was a hexacore it would be seeing 80% loads. More demanding games will put heavier loads on the system and I like to have some head room and not have the cpu being stress tested for hours on end while gaming.

AMD is giving finishing touches to its Ryzen 3000 "Picasso" family of APUs, and Thai PC enthusiast TUM_APISAK has details on their CPU clock speeds. The Ryzen 3 3200G comes with 3.60 GHz nominal clock-speed and 4.00 GHz maximum Precision Boost frequency; while the Ryzen 5(?) 3400G ships with 3.70 GHz clock speeds along with 4.20 GHz max Precision Boost. The "Picasso" silicon is an optical shrink of the 14 nm "Raven Ridge" silicon to the 12 nm FinFET process at GlobalFoundries, the same one on which AMD builds "Pinnacle Ridge" and "Polaris 30."

AMD will be delivering two keynotes: the first, on August 19th, is simply titled "Zen 2", and will therefore deal with the underpinnings of the Zen 2 microarchitecture, which will be pervasive to all of AMD's CPU product lines. A second conference will be held on the same day by AMD's CEO Lisa Su herself, and is titled "Delivering the Future of High-Performance Computing with System, Software and Silicon Co-Optimization". On the next day, August 20th, another AMD keynote is simply titled "7 nm Navi GPU", and we expect it to follow in the footsteps of the Zen 2 conference. So, with AMD diving deep into both architectures come August... it's extremely likely the company will have launched both product lines by then. Fingers crossed. You can find the abstract on AMD's CEO Lisa Su's conference after the break.
