[TechPowerup] Intel to Cut Prices of its Desktop Processors by 15% in Response to Ryzen 3000

According to these sources, prices of 9th generation Core processors could be cut by a minimum of 10 percent, and a maximum of 15 percent, varying by SKUs. This could see prices of popular gaming/enthusiast SKUs such as the Core i9-9900K, the i7-9700K, and the i5-9600K, drop by anywhere between $25 to $75. AMD is launching the Ryzen 9 3900X to compete with the i9-9900K, the Ryzen 7 3800X to compete with the i7-9700K, and the Ryzen 5 3600X to take on the i5-9600K. The three SKUs, according to AMD's internal testing, match the Intel chips at gaming, and beat them at content-creation tasks. At the heart of 3rd generation Ryzen processors is AMD's new Zen 2 microarchitecture, which brings significant IPC gains. AMD is also increasing core-counts on its mainstream desktop platform with the introduction of the Ryzen 9 family of 12-core and 16-core processors in the AM4 package.

And so it begins.

Wait, so Intel is no longer a premium choice for elite 720p gamers? Also, they should take 10% off price for each security hole found.

The retail prices have been going down, but I think it's just been the retailers sacrificing their profit to try and sell the cpus. I bet the retailers would appreciate a little behind the scenes help from Intel on the pricing.

Hi,
Retailers often reduce prices you just have to catch it when it happens
10-15% is nearly nothing outside the norm
25% would be nice to see doubt we ever will though.

For intel it is very out of the norm. Intel does not reduce prices of CPUs.

... Until Ryzen 3 hands them their butts in gift wrap that is, apparently.

They could run promo like free z390/z490 motherboard (mid range) and 8gb ddr4 ram (since its cheap) if you buy an intel CPU. That's only way they can counter amd for time being. Eats into intel profits but market share wont be effected.

Now they just need to drop it another ~$50, enable HT on all CPUs in the entire product stack (except maybe Celerons/Pentiums), and move the i9 up to a 10 core. Then they'd be competitive.

Intel i9 9900K Coffee Lake @ X8 5309mhz (+47.5%)
AMD FX-8320 Vishera @ X4 5022mhz (+43.5%)
Intel i5 4690K Haswell @ X4 5013mhz (+43.2%)
AMD X4 960T Zosma @ X6 4870mhz (+62.3%)
Intel i7 6700 Skylake @ X4 4709mhz (+38.5%)
Intel i5 6400 Skylake @ X4 4588mhz (+69.9%)
