No, no trolling just really rethinking my GPU purchase as it was $800CAD over budget but still wanted to be able to run UHD/4K at 144Hz, I know it seems totally unreasonable especially for Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Battlefield V which I play most.

I'd take a 400w card just make it triple slot like the RTX cards.

Oh okay, fair enough, sorry to come off as so abrasive, I obviously read into what you were saying wrong...I honestly wouldn't sweat it too much man, you've bought the 2080ti, just enjoy the performance you have here and now...I don't think the 5800 or 5900 XT (whatever it will end up being called) will be THAT much faster than a 2080Ti, they will probably only trade blows to begin with (And I hazard a guess that the Navi based cards will eventually be faster via driver maturation and utilization of Wave64 over time), and who knows whether AMD's implementation of Raytracing on RDNA 2.0 will be comparable to Nvidia's RTX? I wouldn't lose any sleep over it man, just OC your 2080Ti and enjoy the performance level that you have.

A 2100Mhz 5700XT pulls 230W under full load, so Yes, an 80CU card would not be clocked anywhere near 2000mhz out of the box, but with power play table mods, it could do 2000+ on the core, and draw over 400W easily (Which I couldn't give a crap about, why do enthusiasts buy 1000W+ psu's? Why do PSU's of that output even exist if everyone is apparently so concerned with power draw? Yes I realize that a card pulling 400W is going to pump out a lot of heat, but there is AIO's or custom waterblocks for that issue, my friends Vega 64 LC puts out some serious heat for its performance level, but there are plenty of people that are perfectly happy with that, my old 290X's used to pull nearly 500W each with flashed custom bios's, and put out a tonne of heat, but I couldn't care less, they were water blocked, quiet, and performed impressively at the time).
A 80 CU+ Navi will be too expensive to make, that is like 520mm^2 die for 7nm, even on 7nm+ it will be off the chart for the cost. Also u need double the bandwidth to support double performance, as of now it mean u need 900MB/s of Bandwidth for 80CU card. Now unless they going for 1TB/s HBM2 like R7 which make it even more expensive, not to mentioned the crazy cooling they will need to slap on that thing. This is just not plain feasible for profit organisation.

Now a 64CU card is highly possible. Gaining at least 50% more performance and beating the 2080 Ti to it with ease, especially on 7nm+ the clock speed will be even faster. This is very likely the big NAVI we are talking about in 2020.

How about 512 bit width GDDR6?

I was thinking 60-64CU card, and with AMD kept on emphasizing that this is RDNA and not GCN and that the GCN limitations are a think of a past with this arch.
However if we do get a 64CU card in 2020, I'm sure nVidia will be coming in with 3000 series GTX/RTX cards. The big Navi in 2020 needs to match 3080/Ti to keep this wave going if its not coming out late 2019/early 2020.

Also this kind of makes me sad if I understand this right. The 5700XT is AMD's GTX680.

Modded power play tables and a 2000+mhz overclock on Navi 20, should put out some pretty impressive performance figures, I'm predicting.

Lower your expectations

I think if there is any truth to the rumor its more like increasing yields in 7nm have lessened the need or more likely the supply for what is basically a salvage SKU.

That said in the future we may see new burst releases of VIIs or similar cards as AMD builds up a stockpile of chips again that don't quite cut it in insticts.

If one can find VegaVII super cheap, and can match Navi $, then grab one. At least the cooler is much better.
