[TPU] AMD Readies Larger 7nm "Navi 12" Silicon to Power Radeon RX 5800 Series

https://www.techpowerup.com/257761/a...rx-5800-series

Navi 12, if true, might be used to compete with RTX 2080 Ti with 64 CU (4096 SPs). The chip should measure ~400mm^2 in size, and 300W power consumption is not surprising.

Navi 10 on the other hand, could be on 7nm+ EUV that compete with NV's new 7nm RTX lineup in 2020.

Or it might be used to go against TU104, not TU102, thus going against the 2070 Super and 2080 Super, presumably aiming at beating them. Unless they've been doing some power optimizations, I don't think that AMD can squeeze a 2080 Ti competitor at 300w until 7nm EUV arrives, along with Navi 2.0.

"Aiming at beating the 2080 Super" would just mean around 2x the framerate of the 2080ti in Frostbite, which would be pretty hilarious.

If they sacrifice a bit of clock speed they can reach that power target quite easily. I think that would still allow for the performance to be good enough.

Nv12 would be something like rx 5600. I do not think AMD is going to bother with stopgap until nv20.

I thought Navi 14 was the RX 5600? The names are simply based on time of design and nothing more, so I suppose it doesn't really matter.

Navi 20 will be on EUV, I think.

I think with 7nm an RX 5800 series will be:

RX 5800- way better than a 2080 Super
RX 5800 XT- slightly worse than a 2080 Ti

my best guess, anyway
