It amazes me its taking this long for them to respond to amd. I mean 2 years time AMD will be on 7nm+ and possible 5nm talks in the wings.

Amd has been snow balling and intel not doing alot to stop this. While normally the enthusiasts market should be a small part, intel doesn't like loosing there mind share of being the best and the fastest.
They're focusing on what matters, mobile and server. Their server roadmap looks competitive along with their software ecosystem which AMD's is pretty much non-existent.

Somehow I doubt the folks at Intel are casually handwaving away that billion dollar market as easily as you are.

That said, this may be a good thing for the consumers in the long run, since it will take a lot of time for AMD to win over the mind share from Intel anyway and hopefully with their feet to the fire they will come out on their 7nm process guns blazing.

History unfolds before our very eyes, AMD has an Athlon 64 moment and a 4870 moment, again. Even with a process advantage now, which was unthinkable two years ago. "Time to kick ass and chew bubble gum" is their new slogan.

I hope history doesn't repeat itself. Last time AMD just ran their K8 architecture into the ground. Intel is set to release a massive CPU architecture called Ocean Cove thanks to Jim Keller in 2022. Hopefully AMD has an answer if not we're just going to see another K8.

that "small part" isn't the "PC GAMING IS DEAD BRA!" market it was a decade ago. It's a booming & thriving industry now. IDK if you remember, but water cooling components used to show up covered in dust, now the good stuff is constantly sold out, & that's the near highest niche of "enthusiast"

also note that PC building (& fam time gaming sessions) is quite the parent & child hobby for millennials.
