Yep, Intel should have gone the standard route of renaming the whole product line when they got to 10 like AMD and Nvidia tend to do. At the very least they should have replaced the 10 with an X. A 10900K doesnt sound as good an an X900K

that's the million dollar question. I'd upgrade to a 10 core if I could keep my motherboard, otherwise AMD is looking mighty sexy.

Heh, not only is it looking like it's gonna be a new socket, there's rumors of there being 2 different sockets haha. LGA1159 for lower tdp cpus and under 8 cores, and LGA1200 for 10 cores

That's gonna be so awesome if Intel releases 2 sets of motherboard chipsets, or a mini HEDT with different motherboards for 125W tdp ones.

So the I7-10700K is just a I9-9900K rebrand?

Also AMD has 17% IPC lead for Zen 3 over Zen 2? That sound abit too good to be true imho, but would be a breakthrough again if that is really the case!

A new socket just because these have a higher number than the 9xxx series. Intel really are cheeky.

The rumors I have heard is that FPU is up to 50% faster, and ALU is up to 15% faster, for an average IPC increase of 17%. I have also heard that some applications or workloads will only see an 8% increase in IPC... perhaps memory throughput heavy workloads or ones that are sensitivity to cache latency. Even at 8%, Intel would retain a lead for gaming, but only by a trivial amount.
